star Kate Ritchie has opened up about the struggles she faced after leaving the Australian soap.
The actress played the role of Sally Fletcher for 20 years, from the show's first ever episode in 1988 until 2008. Having portrayed the character for so long, Kate found it immensely difficult to find direction in her life upon her exit.
Appearing on Anh's Brush with Fame, an Aussie show in which stars talk candidly while being painted, Kate admitted: "I didn't know where [Sally] ended and I began or vice versa, and I had to work out whether I was more than that.

"She gave me purpose and a sense of achievement. I thought the only thing I'd ever done of value in my life was when I was her. I was lost, and I wondered how I was going to survive without her.
"Sally was a great person, a great friend and a great daughter… did people only feel something for me because they liked her?"
The star said that it took a long time and "loads of therapy", but she has finally realised that she is "great without [Sally]", and now sees the character as a "best friend".
