BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood 'never wanted to be weather girl' before replacement claim

BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood 'never wanted to be weather girl' before replacement claim BBC BREAKFAST's Carol Kirkwood admitted she "never wanted to become a weather girl" before speculation about her being replaced emerged. However, some have suggested there is a challenger to Carol's reign at the helm of BBC Breakfast.

The Welsh weather forecaster has recently earned a large following through broadcasts on BBC Breakfast, The One Show and North West Tonight. Despite his success at the BBC, Owain never wanted to become a presenter. Instead, the young star hoped to become a professional drumming percussionist.

Owain's talent on the drums was recognised when a video of him playing the BBC News opening music went viral.

This week, the broadcaster relived that memorable performance from four years ago and jokingly claimed it would "be rude not to" do it again.

A video of his recent drumming solo, which he shared on Twitter, endeared him even further to his army of fans.

Owain's supporters have been increasingly vocal in recent months and often showered him in praise online.

One of the tweets, which tagged BBC Breakfast's official account, requested: "More of him, please..."

Others claimed BBC shows were "worth watching" because of Owain and others tipped him as a big star of the future.

One user described the rising star as Carol Kirkwood's "heir apparent", which led many to question whether he could take the top job.

Carol has presented weather forecasts on the BBC for more than two decades and has previously indicated she has no intention to leave.

Earlier this month, many feared Carol's stint as BBC Breakfast's leading weather presenter might come to an end after an on-air spat.

In the clip, she professed: "I'll probably be sacked for that one."

Carol's bold remark followed a lively debate with Naga Munchetty about the claim from an output producer who believed there was "no weather" to report.

BBC Breakfast's Owain Wyn Evans 'swore' in audition before Carol Kirkwood 'sacked' claim BBC BREAKFAST's Owain Wyn Evans feared he had blown his chance of presenting for the broadcaster after swearing during his audition before Carol Kirkwood sensationally claimed she would "probably be sacked".It followed remarks earlier this year, where one fan demanded "more of him, please" and another said BBC Breakfast was "worth watching for" Owain.

Disagreeing with a BBC producer during a live show didn't seem like the wisest move - as Carol hinted at later with her "probably sacked" remark.

In the wake of the fallout, some looked to Owain as a potential successor for the star.

However, while Owain has a loyal following behind him, he admitted he was "clueless" ahead of his first TV audition.

He applied to be a presenter on Ffeil, a Welsh children's news programme, when he was 18 years old.

Despite working in television being the dream of many youngsters, Owain saw the job as a way to make money.

At the time, he had taken a year out after college to hone his skills as a drummer.

Earlier this year, Owain told the Manchester Evening News that he didn't understand what was required of him during his first audition.

He said: "I was invited to do a screen test and I honestly had no clue what a screen test was."

"I had to read links from an autocue and I really didn't think the audition went well at all."

Owain feared he had blown any chance of becoming a TV presenter after an unfortunate blunder during the audition.

Carol Kirkwood: BBC Breakfast host suffers home dilemma as forecast sparks concern CAROL KIRKWOOD has suffered a home dilemma as the BBC Breakfast forecaster revealed there would be hardly any rain this week.Taking to the micro-blogging site, the 58-year-old admitted her plants were growing like "triffids" - a highly venomous carnivorous plant often found in fictional books and films.

He recalled: "I knocked a bottle of water over by accident and swore in response... I left it feeling deflated."

But "half-an-hour later", Owain received a call to inform him that he had got the job.

He still believes "tipping the water over and swearing" helped him to "relax" because he felt "there was no way I was going to end up getting the job".

Since then, Owain admitted he "worked bloody hard" to get where he is today after studying meteorology with the Open University.

The star continues to impress viewers on North West Tonight, where he is a full-time weather reporter, and BBC Breakfast.

Earlier this month, he participated in the #IceFoot92 challenge, which aimed to raise funds and awareness for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

As part of Owain's efforts, he plunged his feet in a bucket of ice water and delivered a weather forecast.

During the challenge, Owain yelled: "There are not many things that have rendered me speechless but this is one of those things! Gosh, it's very uncomfortable!"

After completing it, he described the feeling as "awful" but was glad to have helped out such a worthwhile cause.

Owain Wyn Evans presents on BBC Breakfast, which airs from 6am on BBC One.
