Gail (played by Helen Worth) has been missing her son Nick (Ben Price) after he decided to leavewith his partner Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and her son Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) after they got involved with a dangerous drug gang. However, the soap stalwart has continued to make things as normal as possible for her grandson Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), who is desperately missing his father. When returning character Sharon Bentley (Tracie Bennett) starts to become interested in the absent trio though, a plot twist could be on the horizon that indicates she has a connection to the group wanting revenge on Leanne. But will she hold Gail hostage as a ploy to get Nick back on the cobbles?

The drama kicks off next week when Sharon decides to catch up with Gail and fellow Weatherfield resident, Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor).
It soon becomes clear the returning character doesn't actually care about her former neighbours but is more interested in finding Leanne.
When the troublemaker discovers Leanne has a link to Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), she soon sets her eyes on the alcoholic.
Trying the friendly approach, Sharon suggests the pair of them go for a coffee but due to his condition, Peter couldn't think of anything worse and declines.
Turning her attention back to Gail, Sharon turns up at her house and ends up stealing the stalwart's laptop.

It's at this moment she discovers Nick's phone number but she soon has to cover her tracks when Jenny comes over with the drinks.
However, the troublemaker's shady behaviour doesn't go unnoticed and Jenny begins to wonder why Sharon has a picture of Nick's son Sam on her laptop.
Lying through her teeth, the returning character explains she must have picked up Gail's instead of her own when they met earlier on.

As the matter is so urgent, Sharon agrees to pick the birthday boy from school and when she returns him to the Platt household, she overhears a call Sam is having with his father.
Noticing how upset the youngster is, the troublemaker offers her support to him and tells him he can talk to her whenever he needs to.

Needing Nick and Leanne back on the cobbles, she could use Gail as a pawn in her menacing game of villainy.
Therefore, she could take Gail hostage and with access to Nick's mobile number, she could send him a picture of his mother tied up.
Not one to let his family suffer, Nick could make a comeback to the cobbles, putting the whole police protection plan in jeopardy.
Although he knows Leanne and Simon would become targets for the drug gang, saving his mother would become a high priority.
However, will he discover Sharon is the one behind Gail's hostage ordeal, or will the troublemaker ensure she is kept out of the picture?
