Richard Madeley is ‘favourite’ to replace Piers Morgan on GMB – but Alan Partridge is all anyone can think of It has now been weeks since Piers Morgan’s explosive exit from Good Morning Britain (GMB), and the gaping hole he has left in the show remains to be filled. Rumours have swirled over who could replace the broadcasting behemoth, with the likes of Ben Shephard, Adil Ray and Kay Burley all among the potential candidates. But presenting legend Richard Madeley, 64, is fast becoming the frontrunner, having admitted he’d be “bonkers” to turn down the role if ITV were to give him a call. And whilst the formerThis Morning host would be well-qualified to take it on – having stood in for Morgan on GMB a number of times already – not everyone’s convinced he’s the right person for the job.

Tipping Point Lucky Stars was back on screens this evening, with a host of celebrity guests competing to win money for their selected charities. Host Ben Shepherd welcomed Richard Madeley, Sheila Ferguson and Mark Wright onto the gameshow. Richard was appearing alone on the show without his famous wife Judy, but he couldn't help but bring her into the conversation.

Richard Madeley introduced himself on the show, pointing out he is best known for being one half of presenting duo, Richard and Judy.

However, he made it clear that he was confident competing on Tipping Point without his wife by his side.

"I don't need anybody to hold my hand," the TV presenter joked. "I'm an independent man, so you guys better watch out."

Mark got the first round off to a good start by correctly answering the first question, which was about Bananas in Pyjamas.

However instead of taking the chance to put a counter into the machine himself, he passed his turn over to Richard.

Richard placed his first counter into the machine choosing drop zone number one, but unfortunately he didn't manage to get anything out of the machine.

When Richard buzzed in for the second question and answered it correctly, he elected to drop another counter into drop zone one.

The three players continued through the round with host Ben firing a number of tricky questions at them.

Round one ended with Sheila in last place having only £300 in her bank, while Mark was in the lead with £600.

This meant Sheila was sadly knocked out of the competition, but she took home £900 for charity Water Aid UK.

Richard won round two having built up £2,700 in his bank.

As well as gaining lots of money in the second round, Richard also won some Tipping point underpants.

"Next time I'm sitting on This Morning I'll wear them," the presenter joked.

Mark left the competition with £2,000 for charity Haven House Children's Hospice.

Richard was the sole celebrity to make his way to the final round.

He put a number of counters into the machine in a bid to get the jackpot counter out.

When it came to the final three counters Ben asked him if he wanted to take the money or trade it for the final counters.

Richard elected to take the trade, saying: "I think it would be timid not to give it a whirl".

He made the right choice, as he managed to get the jackpot counter over the tipping point securing £20,000 for his two charities, St Frances House Essex and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Tipping Point airs weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
