has released the first trailer for The King, its adaptation of the historical tale of King Henry V, also adapted previously by, well, Shakespeare. Netflix has one thing the Bard did not, though: Timothée Chalamet.
The young actor stars as Hal, the wayward prince and reluctant heir to the English throne. He has turned his back on royal life and is living among the people.
However, after his tyrannical father dies, he is crowned King Henry V and is forced to embrace the life he had previously tried to escape. Now the young king must navigate the palace politics, chaos and war his father left behind.
Tilda Swinton pranks Timothée Chalamet during standing ovation at Cannes
The cast of The French Dispatch walk the red carpet at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. The cast includes Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, Tilda Swinton and director Wes Anderson.
Like any young man, he also has to deal with the emotional strings of his past life – including his relationship with his closest friend and mentor, the ageing alcoholic knight John Falstaff (played by Joel Edgerton).
Falstaff is less comedic relief here (as he was for Shakespeare) and more cynical sidekick. He offers such pearls of wisdom as: "A king has no friends, only followers and foe."

Lily Rose Depp also stars as Catherine, Henry's love interest, along with Robert Pattinson as The Dauphin (a foe), Sean Harris as Michael Williams (a follower) and Ben Mendelsohn as the eventually-deceased King Henry IV.

SEAL Tem season 5 has been given the green light, but for the show's 5th outing the military drama will be moving from CBS to Paramount +. When is SEAL Team series 5 out?
The King will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 2. Later in the autumn it will also play in select cinemas in both the UK and North America. This likely means the studio is hoping for another Oscar nod, after last year's Roma.
It will also end up on Netflix... at some point.
