The Mean Girls movie musical in the works has just taken a leap forward by hiring its directors.
Paramount has signed up Hollywood director couple Arturo Perez Jr and Samantha Jayne to lead the upcoming film.
Previously, the spouses have worked together on TV series Quarter Life Poetry and several short films. Perez Jr has also worked on shorts for Johnny Cash and Justin Timberlake, as well as a documentary on Sir Paul McCartney.

The new movie isn't a remake of the original film – it's a film version of the Broadway musical. Mean Girls: The Musical ran for two years on Broadway, finishing just before the pandemic closed the theatres.
Fey's husband Jeff Richmond wrote the music for the stage show, and his music will also be used for the upcoming movie. He also worked on the original Mean Girls film and later went on to receive wide critical acclaim for his music on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, also created by Tina Fey.

The creator of, Lorne Michaels, will also be involved as a producer, having backed the original film.

The Broadway leads Erika Henningsen, Taylor Louderman and Ashley Park won't be reprising their roles on the big screen. Fey told: "I think our Broadway actors are probably too old. It's been four years since they did it on Broadway."
But she also added: "I've spent 16 years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly."
She also confirmed that Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried, who played the lead roles in the original,either.
There's also no release schedule confirmed yet, so there may be a little while to wait before Cady Heron and Regina George are gracing the silver screen once again.
