Entertainment Britney Spears' kids think mum is cool after VMAs return
Britney Spears to perform at VMAs after decade-long break
Britney Spears is set to perform at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards for the first time in almost 10 years. The pop star will take the stage to give a debut performance of her new single Make Me at the New York City ceremony on 28 August (16) - just two days after the release of her ninth studio album, Glory. Britney announced the news on Twitter with a video featuring the famous white python she carried on her shoulders during her performance of I'm a Slave 4 U at the prizegiving in 2001. The snake slithers through her dressing room as it makes its way through items representing her previous performances at the VMAs, including her Oops! I Did It Again red leather jumpsuit, the flesh-coloured, bejewelled bodysuit from her 2000 appearance, and the wedding dress she donned to sing Like a Virgin with Madonna and Christina Aguilera in 2003, when she famously locked lips with the Queen of Pop. In the voiceover, Britney says, "The VMAs don't just give you a stage, they give you a story - some way of taking a fraction of a second and making it live forever. Before you know it, it's history. Before you know it, it's Britney, b**ch!" The last time she appeared at the annual ceremony was in 2007, when she attempted to make a career comeback with a performance of her hit song Gimme More. However, critics savaged her return, poking fun at the fact she appeared shaky and stumbled across the stage. Britney has been nominated for 28 VMAs throughout her career and she has won five. She was also handed the prestigious Video Vanguard Award in 2011.
Britney Spears picked up a few cool points from her sons after performing with G-Eazy at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The singer's return to the awards show after a 10-year performance absence wasn't exactly the hit of the night, but Britney's kids were impressed when mum was joined onstage by one of their favourite rappers for a rendition of her Make Me... and his Me, Myself and I tracks.
"We wanted to do something different, something I've never done before, so that was probably the coolest thing we could come up with," Spears told U.S. radio host Elvis Duran on Monday (29Aug16). "He's (G-Eazy) so sweet! He's got a lot of swag, he's got the whole cool thing going on.
Britney Spears to make a comeback at MTV VMAs 2016; will debut new single Make Me
After the news of Lady Gaga's rumoured performance at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) 2016, another popular pop-star has been confirmed to perform at the VMAs after a break of nine-long-years. Britney Spears, who is known for some of the most iconic moments during the coveted awards, will take to the stage on 28 August for the first time since 2007. The 34-year-old pop star will also debut her new single Make Me from her upcoming album Glory at the award ceremony. MTV confirmed the news of the Toxic singer's performance during this year's VMAs on Twitter. "Get ready @BritneySpears will be performing at the 2016#VMAs on Sunday, August 28 at 9/8c!" the tweet read. Even Spears shared the exciting news on social media on Tuesday 16 August with a promo video that remembered her memorable 2001 performance of I'm A Slave 4 U. The mother-of-two created history during the MTV awards earlier as she walked in to the stage with an albino python draped over her shoulders. "The VMAs don't just give you a stage. They give you a story — some way of taking a fraction of a second, and making it live forever. Before you know it, it's history. Before you know it, it's Britney, bi***," Spears is heard saying in the background of the promo video shared by her. This year's VMAs will be all the more exciting for the fans of the pop star as she is set to debut her new single Make Me from her upcoming album Glory.
"I got to do some of his song... and so it just made it more interesting for me. My kids think he's fricking cool! They're like, 'Mum! You're cool now!' I'm like, 'Thanks!' That's all I had to do!"
Britney's performance at Sunday's (28Aug16) VMAs came just two days after the release of her latest album, Glory, which she told Duran is one of the most important projects she has ever worked on.
"I've spent so much time on this record it means a lot to me...," she explained. "I think that now that I'm older, I'm more up to experiment more and I'm more creative with the people just to try different things because I've been doing it for a while now, so it's fun to change it up."
Meanwhile, Britney is auctioning off the outfit she wore onstage at the New York awards show to raise cash for aid relief in her flooded home state of Louisiana.
The singer, who is originally from Kentwood, set up a special contest in conjunction with the American Red Cross and crowdfunding site CrowdRise, offering fans who donated $10 (£7.60) to the cause the chance to win the sparkly outfit in a raffle.
One winner will pick up the outfit and an autographed copy of her new album. A separate winner and a guest were flown to New York City to attend the VMAs and meet Britney prior to her performance.
