Hollyoaks star Malique Thompson-Dwyer admits nerves over Prince return "I feel like I’ve never left."Malique is coming back to the show as part of Channel 4's Black to Front initiative on Friday, September 10.

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks welcomed back a fan favourite last month as Malique Thompson-Dwyer reprised his role as Prince McQueen.

Prince has arrived back in the village with his new fiancée Olivia Bradshaw (Emily Burnett), but their future as a couple is currently uncertain as Prince's mum Goldie (Chelsee Healey) tries to sabotage their happiness.

Digital Spy recently caught up with Malique for his first big chat since returning, hearing more about his comeback and Prince's future in the show.

How does it feel to be back?

"I've never been in a better place, so coming back to Hollyoaks was a blessing, really. With lockdowns and coronavirus, there weren't many jobs about. After coming back to Hollyoaks, I'm loving it. Seeing everyone and getting accepted back by my old friends, I just feel like I'm at home."

Who needs a wedding! Did you know these long-term celebrity couples aren’t married?

Who needs a wedding! Did you know these long-term celebrity couples aren’t married? Relationships don’t have to follow a set time line. There’s no rule that after two years you should get engaged or after five you should be married; each couple can choose what works best for them. However, a lot of people will be surprised that after more than a decade, the following celebrity couples are yet to tie the knot – and a few have no intention to ever.

How did your return come about?

"Before [former executive producer] Bryan Kirkwood left Hollyoaks, I spoke to him. This was quite a few months ago. I rang him and said that I was interested in coming back. I didn't even know Bryan was leaving.

"It took about six or seven months for me to get a call to say that there were storylines coming up for me. But yeah, I was the one who rang up and wanted to come back."

How did you feel about Prince coming back with a new fiancée?

"It's quite a step for Prince to be coming back with a fiancée, obviously bearing in mind that he's lost his beloved wife Lily. When I found out he was coming back with a new wife-to-be, I was like: 'Wow, she must be really nice then, for him to be moving on from his ex!'

Goldie is trying to sabotage their happiness. Do you think she'll succeed?

"Prince is in the middle in this situation, because Goldie is his mum. Obviously he's also really in love with Olivia, so he's in two minds. But the only reason Goldie is trying to sabotage things is because she thinks Prince is leaving to go to New Zealand with Olivia.

"I know in real life, if my mum found out that I was moving to New Zealand with someone, she'd probably try to stop that herself! I feel like that's a very 'mum' thing to do.

"Hopefully Goldie can get over it, accept Olivia as a daughter-in-law and just agree with it."

Prince and Olivia are very different. Do you think they make a good match?

"Opposites definitely do attract. I feel like Olivia is what Prince needs. He needs a woman in his life, because he lacks direction. Olivia is quite level-headed and she's the kind of person to make you want to do better in life. He needs her."

Do you hope you get to film a big McQueen wedding together?

"I'd love that. I remember the last wedding I had on Hollyoaks was really fun to shoot and a really good storyline. Olivia's parents are quite rich, so the wedding this time around would be a lot bigger and better.

"I've not got storylines that far yet. You know what Hollyoaks is like – you never know what's going to happen in the next week. Anything can happen. But I hope they stay together for long enough that they actually get to have a wedding."

Are you still in touch with your on-screen brother Theo Graham (Hunter) and do you think he'd ever return?

"Obviously we've got our own lives going on, but every now and again, me and Theo do speak to each other. I always ask him what he's up to.

"I don't know if Theo would come back because he's been doing work for Netflix. He's onto bigger and better things and he's doing well in life. I don't think he has any reason to come back. I can't speak for him, but I can't see him coming back anytime soon.

"I think Theo is filming something in Dublin at the minute. But it would be good if he did come back, because I see a lot of the fans asking if he would."

Who were you most looking forward to catching up with from the cast?

"Definitely my boy Owen [Warner, who plays Romeo]. Me and Owen go way back, because when he first joined the show, me and him became best mates. We ended up living together and became really close. We're like brothers.

"Apart from that, Chelsee [Healey, who plays Goldie]. But in terms of boy mates, it's got to be Owen."

Have you made friends with the newer cast?

"Me and Billy [Price, who plays Sid] are dead close now as well. He lives with Owen and I'm always at their house. We've had a few nights out. I'm loving some of the new cast – Billy's definitely up there, though."

With so much talk of New Zealand, are you back in the show for good?

"Yeah, although you don't know what's going to happen in Hollyoaks. Anything could happen. But I'm definitely hoping to stay for a bit.

"I've got family to look after, I've got my daughter to look after and I need something stable right now.

"I didn't realise how much I loved Hollyoaks until I left. When I left, I missed it. I'm hoping to stay for a while, if they let me!"

Have the producers told you much about future storylines?

"I think they're still deciding what they want to do with me. Hopefully they come up with some really good stories.

"I'm going to book in a meeting, because I've got a few ideas I want to give. The scripts I've got haven't gone that far ahead yet, but they've probably got a big plan for me. I'm just waiting to hear more, really."

How do you look back on your time on I'm A Celebrity in 2018?

"It was definitely a life-changing experience. I feel like I should have gone on it when I was a bit older, with a bit more confidence. When I was on the show, I didn't really speak much. I think that's because I was really shy. If I went on it now, I'd be a lot more vocal.

"I think it definitely did change my life. It's one of those experiences that not many people get to have. It was great. It's been years and people still say: 'Oh my God, you were on I'm A Celebrity'."

You've done more reality TV since – would you continue down that route?

"As of now, I want to do less reality shows. I realised I was switching towards doing a lot of reality and I don't want to be seen as that 'reality TV show guy'. I came into the game as an actor and now I'm focusing on that.

"Obviously, anything helps. Wherever life takes me, I'm going to go there and I'm not going to force anything. But at the minute, I'm just focusing on my acting and my music, because I do music as well. Hopefully I get to release something soon.

"I've been doing music for years now and I've just been waiting for that right song. I think I've come across a song that is ready for release. So I'm doing my music, doing my acting, keeping myself to myself, focusing and just cracking on with it."

Hollyoaks airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4. Selected omnibus episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video.
