'Emmerdale' director Duncan Foster has promised fans that upcoming stunt scenes will rival those you would see in a Hollywood movie.

The ITV show is to air a series of dramatic episodes in what is being dubbed "survival week".

Viewers will see scenes of white-water rafting, abseiling and a terrifying chase round a maize maze, which will leave fan-favourite David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) in grave danger as murderous Meena Jutla, played by Paige Sandhu, prepares to strike again.

Foster says one stunt is a first-of-its-kind for the soap and he has compared it to a sequence you would see in Tom Cruise's 'Mission: Impossible' franchise.

Emmerdale to revisit Priya's feelings for Ellis Chapman

Emmerdale to revisit Priya's feelings for Ellis Chapman Could they finally get together?Emmerdale has confirmed that Priya Kotecha and Ellis Chapman's potential romance story will be revisited.

He said: "Our secret stunt was the biggest challenge because no one has ever done it before. I have noticed 'Mission: Impossible' is filming in Derbyshire with a train line quarry. In my opinion, ours is going to be better."

'Emmerdale' star Anna Nightingale, who plays Andrea Tate in the Yorkshire-based soap, likened some scenes to a horror movie.

She said: "These episodes aren't like anything you've seen before. No-one is safe! It sounds like a tagline for a horror movie, but it's true."

Viewers will be left wondering if David is the next victim for evil Meena after she overhears her boyfriend confess his love for his friend Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins).

And Foster claims the specially built maze saw the cast and crew get lost during filming because it is so complex.

He said: "The maze is amazing, it’s unbelievable. There have been times when we’ve been filming and we’ve taken a wrong turn and we’re at a dead-end.

Emmerdale's "survival week" episodes begin on ITV on Monday night (18.10.21).
