The Diane Sugden actress recently announced her upcoming exit.Emmerdale's Rodney Blackstock actor Patrick Mower has opened up about his future on the soap following the departure of co-star Elizabeth Estensen.

The actress will depart the Dales this week, as part of a thrilling plot which sees Diane plan to flee to Portugal with her daughter, Bernice (), and pregnant granddaughter, Gabby ( ).
Well, until Gabby going into labour rather scuppers their plans!
Off screen, the 72-year-old actress has decided to leave her Dales character behind.
“For the past 22 years I have loved playing Diane Sugden - she’s kind, reliable and fiercely loyal,” she says. “I will miss it enormously, but I think the time has come now for me to go.”

Elizabeth first joined the soap in 1999, and holds the accolade of being the longest-running boss of the famous Woolpack pub.
It's a job she has adored, saying: “I have loved being a landlady. It is great behind the bar, as you may not always have the biggest scenes, but you get to see everyone and feel at the centre of everything. I used to call them my ‘What can I get you?’ days.”
She adds: “And with all that practice I have learnt over the years how to pull a good pint.”
In recent times, the pandemic has changed the nature of the job Elizabeth held for 22 years, something she admits is a “shame”.

Four huge stunts are on the way.Emmerdale is lining up a huge week of drama, which sees the lives of much-loved characters hang in the balance.
“We used to share, but now it is single occupancy dressing rooms. We no longer go into costume and make-up, which is a shame as I used to love going to make-up. But thankfully all the measures seem to work and we can keep recording.”
She told: “I think it’s a younger person’s job, because you have to learn lines very quickly and the job is very hard work.”

And what of the future? Admitting she’s ‘emotional’ about leaving the show, Elizabeth is happy to take things as they come for a while.
She said: “I have not yet planned anything myself for when I leave. I would like to travel around the world and perhaps brush up my French. I’m not retiring from acting altogether, I simply want to keep working if I can.”
She adds: “I have been her for 22 years, I’ve been a landlady for 17 years. I can’t quite believe it. And do you know every day has been different and every day has been a pleasure.”
