Next up, we're speaking to Drag Race UK's River Medway about her season three exit.

Anyone else want to scream and shout after that latest lip sync result? For the first time in Drag Race UK herstory, RuPaul asked not one, but two queens to sashay away, and after Snatch Game no less.

Jake Gyllenhaal's fellow Tony Award nominee used to help him run his lines

Jake Gyllenhaal's fellow Tony Award nominee used to help him run his lines Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed he goes way back with Andrew Burnap, who beat him to a Tony Award. The 'Guilty' star and Tom Hiddleston lost out on the Best Leading Actor in a Play prize at the 2021 Tony Awards last month, and Jake has revealed the winner, star of 'The Inheritance', Andrew, is actually an old friend and he was thrilled that he won over himself.

This follows a wave of surprise judging decisions that have proved even more divisive than usual. But even then, the outrage surrounding this double elimination is perhaps the loudest yet. Both River Medway and Choriza May were popular fan favourites who deserved better in the eyes of many (including us here at Digital Spy).

We caught up with River to pick (and mix) her brains on that shock exit to find out what she really thinks of RuPaul's surprise decision.

You are one of our absolute favourites this season. It’s such a pleasure to chat with you today.

Thanks. That’s really sweet. You must be a bit upset, then, that you’re talking to me today?

Well, we were hoping it would take a few more weeks, absolutely.

Drag Race UK's Victoria Scone on that devastating exit and if she's returning for season 4

Drag Race UK's Victoria Scone on that devastating exit and if she's returning for season 4 "It's not every day a drag queen gets the call from Ru, especially being the first cisgender woman."Next up, we're speaking to Drag Race UK's Victoria Scone about her surprise exit in season three.

Yeah. The winner’s interview.

Exactly! So we wanted to start by asking you about your phenomenal look from last week's "expensive" runway. Can you talk us through that outfit in more detail?

As soon as we got that runway, the first thing I think about with money and wealth are these red and gold money packets that we get on Chinese New Year or for a big celebration. So red and gold and decorations, which is obviously a lot from my dad’s culture, because he’s from Singapore.

So I was like, "I need to do this quite traditional look." And I’ve never done that in my drag before, because I’ve always felt quite disconnected with that part of me. I was born and raised in England, and my dad moved to England when he was really young. And a lot of the time, I have this thing which I think a lot of mixed-race people have where it’s like, when I'm around white people, I feel I’m not white enough. And when I’m around Asian people, I don’t feel Asian enough. I never quite fit in with anyone. And it’s always trying to find where I fit in.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised these aspects can co-exist at the same time. It doesn’t need to be one or the other, because I am literally the product of them co-existing. So why can’t I do everything at the same time?

It’s so important for me to have this culturally authentic look. I was so happy with it, and I spent so long altering the dress, making sure it fit gorgeously and everything. I’m really glad that I got to show off that part of my heritage and my culture. And also that in the same episode, I also wore an outfit that was my mum’s.

One thing was from my dad, one thing was from my mum. And then obviously, episode one, I showed off my hometown, and everything like that. So I’m really glad that I got to really show off every part of me, because it’s all of these things make me River Medway, and make up my entire existence.

Moving onto last night's episode, how do you feel about Snatch Game now looking back on it?

It really wasn’t that bad. I think it’s the fact that some of the others were amazing and hilarious. Maybe I wasn’t very funny. It wasn’t over-the-top enough. It wasn’t smart enough. I get that.

But it is what it is. I was always dreading the Snatch Game, if I’m going to be honest. As soon as I sat down in that chair, I was like, "This isn’t going to go well." I knew it. I just felt it. And that’s OK. You can’t excel at everything. And all of the best people bomb Snatch Game, to be honest. It always happens, I find.

How did you feel about the judges' critiques in general? Do you feel they were fair?

I mean… [pause] It’s a reality TV show at the end of the day. Drag Race is a reality TV show. They have things they want to convey. They have things they want to get through. You know what I mean? I knew exactly what I was signing up for. I know the game. So I can’t be mad. I’m not bitter.

It’s given me this platform, so I’m happy with it. Do I agree? Of course not, but it’s just their opinions, the same way I’m sure people won’t agree with my opinions; the same way it’s OK if I don’t agree with the judges’ opinions or whatever.

Maybe sometimes it’s a double standard, but that’s always going to happen. So I can’t be mad about it. It’s a TV show.

What was going through your mind when that double elimination was announced?

I was shocked. One of us could have won that. They didn’t need to send both of us home. But again, it’s a TV show. Do you know what I mean? I was shocked for a second, and then I thought, "I know it’s not a reflection of me as a drag queen or as a person or my talents. It’s not a reflection on Choriza, and Choriza's amazing talent, either."

I think everybody knows it’s not a reflection on us. It’s all just part of Drag Race. And that’s OK.

There was so much drama in the last couple of episodes, and not just on the runway, particularly with Scarlett Harlett when she walked out of Untucked. We’ve seen you post online since about you and Scarlett being friends. Could you tell me where you’re at now as a group, and with Scarlett as well?

So me and Scarlett have had so many conversations, even straight after, and recently when the episode aired. We’ve had really, really nice conversations.

The thing is, I really didn’t get to know Scarlett at that point. I think that was part of the problem. When she explained it on the show… I think she thinks that people aren’t going to want to connect with her, which makes her not connect with people. And maybe it comes across in the wrong way. It especially did while we were filming, unfortunately. And that’s just… everybody reacts differently to Drag Race, and the way you film it.

Again, I completely understand why she reacted the way she did. If I was there, and everyone said my name, I’m sure I would react the same way. But it was so hard. We would try to explain to her, "It’s just a coincidence we all said your name."

Obviously, in that situation, she’s not going to think rationally. Of course not. She’s human. And we’ve all had such good chats. We all get on so well. I really don’t think there’s bad blood between anyone, because we know it’s Drag Race, and we only really have each other, because only we were there, and only we experienced it.

I kind of love it when there’s all these shady moments, because it’s like, we’ll text each other afterwards: "Oh my God, did you see that?" We’re all so good, and everyone’s pulling their hair out about it, and we’re like, "It’s just a TV show." That’s my phrase of the day: it’s just a TV show. It’s just drag. We all love each other. We’re all people in wigs, loving what we do.

Finally, we wanted to ask you about "BDE". Your verse in particular stood out as something really special, not just for the show but your own personal journey as well. Would you mind talking me through that part of the song more and how it came about?

Before I went on the show, I was like, "If I do a girl group and do a verse, my mum’s in it. It 100% has to happen." I wrote parts of that verse before we even started, because you know it’s going to come up, so you want to think of stuff before you come in… All the important lines in it I had written before.

Then when we started writing them, I started to write a more generic Drag Race verse, which I think a lot of the girls fall into, because I thought, "Oh, I don’t want to make it too deep, because it’s Drag Race." And then I thought, "Actually, do you know what? If I want to write these lyrics, I’m going to write them. I don’t want to just write, 'I’m fierce, pass me the crown.'"

So it was really important to me. And obviously, we all ended up writing pretty good verses in my group. I almost wrote a very generic verse, but I’m really glad I didn’t. Because that is the music that gets you, like Adele. Her music gets you because it’s like, "Oh my God, that’s a real person just speaking their truth." And that is what I did.

Also, I think I did that just the whole show anyway, with all the chats that I had, and everything – I am just speaking my truth. I don’t want people to just see this drag queen. I want everybody to see a real person, and I really hope that I conveyed that on screen.
