Just days before his new film Belfast hits theaters around North America, Jamie Dornan is accepting an award for his performance.

The 39-year-old Irish actor, who grew up in the suburbs of Belfast, arrived at the Denver Film Festival on Wednesday to receive the Excellence in Acting Award.

Dornan portrays Pa, the father of newcomer Jude Hill's  main character Buddy in the semi-autobiographical film from writer-director Kenneth Branagh.

Dornan arrived at the fest with a brown suede coat with dual zippers over a dark grey sweater.

Belfast follows the tale of a young boy named Buddy (Jude Hill) and his working class parents (Dornan and Caitriona Balfe) trying to make their way through the tumultuous late 1960s in the Northern Ireland capitol.

The film also stars Judi Dench and Ciarin Hinds as Buddy's grandparents, with Branagh directing from his own script.

The drama has already taken home several awards on the festival circuit, including the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Dornan is coming off a rare comedy turn in Universal's Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, which debuted in February.

Dornan also recently opened up about his Irish heritage, revealing on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he never talks about his career when he's back home in Ireland.

'It's funny, I think anyone from the whole island of Ireland... we're not great at... we're quite uncomfortable with success,' Dornan said.

'You don't want to be seen to be achieving too much. It doesn't look well. There's a bit of like, "Who does he think he is? Gone after America," you know and doing well,' he added.
