As the monarch of our country, the Queen sometimes has to keep a low profile. After all, she cannot be referred to as 'The Queen' or 'Elizabeth Windsor' all the time - as it would give the game away, wouldn't it?

Apparently during public events, the Queen uses a 'secret' code name that that police protection officers use to address her - and it is much more normal than one might think.

The Sun reported that an aide on a security trip back in 2019 revealed Her Majesty's code name to be Sharon. "She's written down as S," admitted the aide, who when asked what 'S' stands for added, "It’s Sharon."

It is unclear whether or not the Queen actually goes by this secret code name, but historian Hugo Vickers told The Sun, "Yes, it is highly likely."

He continued: "The purpose of any sobriquet is that it should be anonymous and memorable. If it can also be a bit mischievous and therefore all the more memorable, then that makes sense."

This is not the first time that members of the Royal Family have adopted different names in order to avoid being recognised. The Cambridge children are referred to as George Cambridge and so forth, in order to blend in with classmates.

Likewise, when Prince William and Prince Harry attended Eton College together, they were both referred to as William Wales and Harry Wales.

Kate Middleton also used a different name to stay out of the spotlight shortly after she married Prince William. In 2011, Kate was trying to purchase a water suit in watersports shop, she noticed she had forgotten her purse.

Realising she was unable to pay for the item, Kate prevented it from being a wasted trip by giving the shopkeeper a secret name. When he asked for her name when she asked if she could reserve the wetsuit to collect at a later time, Kate replied, "Mrs Cambridge."
