  Helen Skelton 'really grateful' to replace Laura Whitmore on BBC Radio 5 Live Helen's new show launches next month.It was confirmed earlier this week that the Countryfile host will be replacing the Love Island presenter next month, as Laura plans to focus on cashing in on fame from the ITV2 series.

Helen Skelton has been announced as BBC Radio 5's newest presenter after taking over the role from Love Island's Laura Whitmore.

It comes after Laura Whitmore announced her departure from the BBC Radio 5 Live Sunday morning slot earlier this week, after four years on the show.

Countryfile star Helen will take on the new role behind the scenes from the middle of August, it is reported that the show will combine discussions of sport and current affairs, building up to the station’s afternoon live football coverage.

The BBC announced the news of Helen's new gig on Friday afternoon on Twitter: "We’ve got some exciting news.

"@HelenSkelton will present a new-look Sunday morning programme on BBC Radio 5 Live. The new show, from 10am to midday, launches on August 14th. Welcome Helen."

Listeners were delighted to hear the news of Helen's arrival, with @PaulFF55 commenting: "Excellent addition to a Sunday."

Graham Bean added: "Best tv and radio presenter by a country mile", Rosie Straughair praised: "Great news. Helen is always a breath of fresh air." @ClaireBlading99 exclaimed: "Brilliant! Helen will be a great addition and has such a kind personality."

Helen will take over the 10am-12pm slot on BBC Radio 5 to present a "new-look" Sunday programme.
