Eurovision 2023 preparations have already begun, after Ukraine won 2022’s contest in Turin, Italy.

Alas, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced that the winning country won’t be hosting the 67th Eurovision Song Contest as per tradition, given the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

As our entry, Space Man singer Sam Ryder, came second to the Ukrainian folk-rap group Kalush Orchestra, it’s been revealed that the UK and the BBC will be hosting the famous music competition.

Naturally, the discussion has many wondering… which UK city will get to host and when will Eurovision tickets be on sale?

Eurovision fans have decided whether Glasgow or Liverpool should host

Eurovision fans have decided whether Glasgow or Liverpool should host Liverpool won 63% of the vote at the time of writing. After coming in second place with act Sam Ryder, Eurovision bosses decided the UK would host the competition for the ninth time due to the ongoing Russian invasion in the winning country, Ukraine.

Here’s what we know so far.

When could Eurovision 2023 tickets go on sale?

It’s a bit too early to be talking about tickets yet, unfortunately.

Yep, we are indeed going to host the contest, but the BBC is still in the process of choosing a host city.

London never made it onto the shortlist of seven cities, opting not to make a bid to host.

And now, the final two options have been revealed – Liverpool and Glasgow.

Both cities make sense. Liverpudlian Sonia came second in the competition in 1993.

Conversely, the UK’s first nul points performers, Jemini, also hail from the city…

And The Beatles, arguably Britain’s biggest global music export, hail from the city.

As for Glasgow? ABBA namecheck the city (‘I was sick and tired of everything, when I called you last night from Glasgow…’). What more credentials do they need?

Eurovision 2023: ‘No favouritism’ between Glasgow and Liverpool – Graham Norton

Eurovision 2023: ‘No favouritism’ between Glasgow and Liverpool – Graham Norton 'At first glance he may seem just another businessman going about his work. But look again. To people of a certain age, his face and voice may be very familiar.' (It is a video about the former comic John McBlain, known for his regular spots on UTV's "Kelly Show" and Radio Ulster's "Talkback" and his impersonations of Rev Ian Paisley, Gerry Adams etc. The video looks at his life now, but he gives a stark, humorous and emotional account of the issues facing a political comedian during some of the worst days of 'The Troubles.'

Well, how about in 1969, Glasgow born popstar Lulu represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest and was part of a four-way tie with France, Spain and The Netherlands.

Her entry, Boom-bang-a-bang, became a huge hit across Europe.

It’s likely that we’ll hear more about tickets sometime in early 2023, if we look at last year’s sale dates.

For the 66th annual Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, tickets for the semi-finals and live final went on sale on April 7, 2022 – with grand final tickets selling out in just a few weeks.

The contest was then held in mid May, with the Grand Final airing on May 14.

However they have been known to go on sale earlier than this, with the first batch of tickets for the 2020 contest in Rotterdam – before it was cancelled due to the pandemic – going on sale in December 2019.

Keep in mind that while tickets for the final always sell out fast, it is just one of nine ticketed shows across contest week.

Others include the two semi-finals, as well as some dress rehearsals which are performed in front of an audience. They are generally identical to the main event, just without the voting.
