Emmerdale star Laura Norton has opened up about her pregnancy, explaining how she has adapted her growing baby bump to filming.

The Kerry Wyatt star confirmed last month that she was expecting her second baby with partner and former co-star Mark Jordon, saying at the time she was prepping for "round 2".

Speaking to The Mirror about how she has managed to hide the bump while shooting scenes for her (not pregnant) character, the star explained that she is taking measures such as wearing baggier clothing and hiding behind objects.

Emmerdale details aftermath of Mackenzie Boyd betraying Charity Dingle Good Morning Britain host Adil Ray has said that the decision to have Prince William and Prince Harry walking behind Princess Diana's coffin at her funeral was 'a terrible thing'.

"The biggest problem is hiding it as I seem to be exploding every week," Laura admitted. "I'm wearing a lot of baggy clothes and using well-placed handbags, and there's been a lot of mid-shots.

"Some things are trickier, though, like when they're filming wide shots. So I've been standing behind people quite a lot of the time."

The actress explained that Kerry will be heavily involved in the upcoming storm stunt as part of Emmerdale's 50th anniversary, meaning she has had to use a stunt double for more intense scenes.

"I'm involved in quite a few storylines – so busy on Emmerdale at the moment I haven't had time to think about the baby's arrival," she said. "I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing as it's getting really close, really quickly."

Laura added: "I do have to be extra-cautious and have a stunt double on set, but it's always very exciting when we do these episodes and I do have a lot of energy still, which is good, as they've been writing in some high-energy stuff for me."

She further explained of her scenes: "Kerry gets caught in the storm, and there's a big fallout for her. The event is such a milestone, and it's going to look really good on screen. I think the viewers will be hyped for the 50th anniversary. It will be the catalyst for a lot of other things. There will also be some comeuppance for people too."

The star also reflected on welcoming her first baby Jesse during the COVID-19 lockdown, explaining how she couldn't come into work at the time as they were unsure how the virus could affect pregnancy.

"I had the whole of the time off from the soap then another seven months after having Jesse," she recalled. "I was hardly seeing anybody. I saw Mark, and my mum and dad were allowed to come and visit to help out when he was filming."

"It was very strange when everything opened up with a baby because of how scared everybody was. When I was pregnant with Jesse, I had all day every day to just think about my bump," Laura added, saying that now she is more distracted with filming, she is "not too worried" and feeling "a lot more chilled about it all".

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
