The Star Wars franchise is still as popular as ever and is still going strong among fans, 45 years since the first film hit cinemas in 1977. Even back then, the film was way ahead of its time in its use of special effects and graphics, which would have you almost believe it was actually shot in outer space.

However, the sci-fi series of both prequels and sequels that tells a story of interplanetary revolution and warfare is of course shot a lot closer to home. In fact, in recent times the shooting location for the latest Star Wars instalments is London.

Londoners who watch Star Wars: Andor on Disney+ might even recognise a few of the places they see in the background. Far from being on another planet, the filming is actually done at Canary Wharf Underground Station, along the London Docklands.

Filming for the series seemingly took place at the station around April 2021, with one fan having got a snapshot of the set from a distance. In the photograph, you can see green screens put up just outside the station, with what appears to be a camera in front of them.

It wouldn’t be the first time Canary Wharf has been used as a base for Star Wars. The Jubilee line platform inside the station was also used as a filming location for the 2016 release Star Wars: Rogue One.

Maria and Gary stunned by shock twist in Kelly and Aadi's wedding plan in new Corrie clip The new wedding plans aren't what the couple expectedKelly and Aadi’s (Adam Hussain) relationship has been going so well that the pair have decided to get married. However, there seems set to be resistance as the pair plan to tie the knot at famous venue Gretna Green.

In the trailer to the movie, at around the 1 minute and 12 seconds mark, you can see Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones, running around the platform while being chased by stormtroopers. So, if you ever thought Canary Wharf Tube station resembled the Death Star, that’s because it is!

The film’s director Gareth Edwards at the time admitted to picking the location because of its futuristic look. He said: "My first job in television was just around the corner from the station. I thought, this is something from the future. This is like a sci-fi movie."

Meanwhile, location scout David O'Reilly told TimeOut Magazine: "We needed a space transport hub and it looks so futuristic, we felt Canary Wharf station would be perfect."

So, if you’ve been looking for the right place to wear your new Darth Vader you ordered from Amazon but haven’t had the chance to try on yet, Canary Wharf station would be the ideal location. Oh, and don’t forget your light saber!

Rehab 'gave me a sense of self worth'.No, I get to do all the things on stage that I can’t do any more. It’s an actor’s job to bring past experiences to a role if they can. There are certainly aspects of that with this character but it’s make-believe.
