Middlesbrough win race for Howson

Middlesbrough win race for Howson Middlesbrough have won the race to sign Norwich City midfielder Jonny Howson this summer. According to the very reliable PA journalist Nick Mashiter, Howson is set to sign for Middlesbrough. Twitter: Barring any late hitches Middlesbrough have won the race for Norwich’s Jonny Howson. #mfc #ncfc (@nickmashiter) Howson has rejected a new contract with Norwich and is keen to move up north with his family. Leeds were interested but the £5m price tag is thought to have scared them off. Howson joined Norwich in January 2012 and won the club’s player of the season award in 2015/16, as well as coming runner-up in 2016/17. However, Norwich are looking to sell to reinvest in new signings this summer and many have speculated that they could cash in on Howson to do so. Declan Rudd has already left the club to join Preston, for a fee thought to be in the region of £500k. Fans may oppose the club selling one of their best players to a direct rival, though.

Norwich City are still interested in Union Berlin defender Toni Leistner, despite signing Marcel Franke on Friday.

According to Berlin Sport, Norwich head coach Daniel Farke wants both Franke and Leistner in his team for next season.

It has been claimed that Norwich are keen on signing the central defender this summer, with a bid of €3.5m having been lodged earlier this summer.

That offer was rejected, but Berlin Sport say that Norwich are likely to return with an improved offer before the end of the transfer window.

Norwich announced the signing of Franke from Furth on Friday, who was rumoured as a replacement for Leistner at Berlin if he were to leave.

Leistner has one year left on his current deal with Berlin, which could also tempt them in to selling the defender.

He is 26-years-old and has been with Berlin since 2014, racking up 74 league appearances in that time.
