Wenger considers sending Alexis to PSG in January swap deal

Wenger considers sending Alexis to PSG in January swap deal Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is considering offering Alexis Sanchez to PSG in a swap deal, despite interest in the Chilean striker from both Manchester United and Manchester City. According to the Daily Star, Wenger is extremely keen on signing German attacker Julian Draxler from the French side and would be willing to let Alexis Sanchez — who is out of contract with Arsenal next summer — go the other way. Sanchez came close to joining Manchester City in the summer, but the north west club would not relent on Wenger’s pursuit of Raheem Sterling, and then the Gunners failed in signing Thomas Lemar of Monaco, so Sanchez was not allowed to leave the club as no replacement had come in for him. However, Julian Draxler would be a very handy replacement for the Chilean, and to receive such a player in a swap deal for the Sanchez would be a great coup for the Gunners, as Alexis’ value deteriorates with every month that he becomes closer to leaving on a free transfer. Draxler joined PSG from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in January this year, and has since made 33 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, scoring 11 goals in that time.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is to assess Alexis Sanchez’s fitness ahead of his side’s clash against Watford on Saturday.

The attacker is set to fly back into London on Thursday having spent the international break with his native Chile, in what was a disappointing end to their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Sanchez played for his country against Brazil only on Wednesday, and Wenger believes that he received some “special treatment” throughout the match.

Quoted by the Evening Standard, Wenger had this to say about Sanchez’s condition:

“I will have to speak to him. Yesterday afternoon I watched the Brazil vs Chile game to see how difficult it was.”

Wenger eyeing up Martial as Sanchez replacement

Wenger eyeing up Martial as Sanchez replacement Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is eyeing up a move for Manchester United winger Anthony Martial. Wenger sees Martial as the idea man to replace Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to leave the club. Sanchez’s contract with the club expires at the end of the season and a number of clubs are thought to be ready to pounce. The forward looked set to leave in the summer but Arsenal forced him to stay, although they may be tempted to sell in January to avoid losing him on a free transfer. Sanchez is refusing to sign a new contract with the club, which opens the door for Wenger to scout replacements. According to The Mirror, Martial is his main target. The report claims that Wenger believes Martial would be interested in the move. The French winger has scored five goals and managed six assists in nine games for United this season, despite being a regular on the bench.

Alexis Sánchez ’ s workload is taking a visible toll, according to Arsène Wenger . Wojciech Szczesny is available and Mathieu Debuchy will be in contention next week. Wenger spoke of calculated gambles in assessing how soon and how much the at-risk players can play.

“I must say he got some special treatment – it was a very physical game and mentally I will have to assess the situation.”

The Frenchman also admitted today that a departure for Sanchez, along with other key player Mesut Ozil, in January is a strong possibility. Both players’ contracts expire in the summer, and they will be free to discuss moves to foreign clubs in January should they wish.

Wenger will hope to have Sanchez available for selection on Saturday as his side take the trip to Watford.

Ozil must win back his starting spot says Wenger .
Mesut Ozil’s place in the Arsenal starting XI is no longer guaranteed according to his manager. The Express reports that Arsene Wenger has fired a warning in Ozil’s direction as he prepares to fight for his place in the team against Watford. “Of course he [Ozil] is important, but I have many players, we speak about Jack and we speak about Iwobi. They are all players who play in this similar position and it is very interesting because it gives me a lot of opportunities to keep them all focused and refreshed.” “Mesut is working hard now, he is only one week back in training, since Monday he has joined in. He has worked hard.” Ozil has spent time on the sideline already this season with a knee injury halting his game time. A somewhat disappointing start to the season has seen Ozil fall out of favour with Jack Wilshere returning to full fitness and impressing when given the chance. The German is out of contract next season and talks continue about a new deal at the club with both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez being linked with moves away from the club.
