Wilder 'declares war' on Joshua after demolishing Stiverne in title defence

Wilder 'declares war' on Joshua after demolishing Stiverne in title defence Undefeated WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has thrown down the gauntlet to Anthony Joshua after devastating Bermane Stiverne in a mandatory defence of his title. After knocking his opponent out in a brutal first round at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, the US boxer called out to his British rival: “I declare war on you. Do you accept my challenge?”There appeared to be no contest between Wilder, who is unbeaten in his professional career, and Stiverne, who was sent crashing to the canvas three times before the referee called time on Saturday’s fight in the first round.

Former WBA welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi believes Anthony Joshua has one weakness that Deontay Wilder can exploit in a potential title unification fight.

This is partly because the Briton has faced superior opposition throughout his career while many would consider him the better boxer, despite lacking the power of Wilder.

However, Malignaggi, who cannot predict a winner just yet, believes Joshua has a tendency not to move his head a lot during a fight, which can be exploited by the "Bronze Bomber".

"Deontay has a great jab and great straight right hand," Malignaggi told ThaBoxingVoice.

"Straight punches are his best asset and Anthony Joshua does not move his head. So you know, a guy who doesn't move his head is susceptible to getting hit down the middle with straight shots. And those are Deontay's best punches."

The Brooklyn native is nonetheless excited about the possibility of such a match-up and thinks it will happen soon as the demand for the fight keeps rising.

If Joshua's a strong champion, a true champion, you guys in England should smoke him out, make him fight."You should see if he's the best. My heart says I'm the best, if I'm not I want someone to show me.
