McLaren Formula 1 junior Nyck de Vries will compete for the 2018 Formula 2 title at Prema Racing, as the team completes their driver line-up.

This season was de Vries’ rookie campaign in F2. Initially driving for Rapax, he made a mid-season switch to Racing Engineering.

The 22-year-old claimed his maiden F2 victory in the Monaco sprint race en route to seventh in the drivers’ standings.

Entering the category in 2016, Prema has guided both Pierre Gasly and Charles Leclerc to the drivers’ title in consecutive seasons.

“First of all, I want to thank everyone involved for this opportunity,” de Vries stated. “I am delighted to join such a successful team as Prema and I thank them for putting their faith in me.

Gelael to race for Prema in F2 in 2018

Gelael to race for Prema in F2 in 2018 Prema Racing has announced that Sean Gelael will race for the Italian outfit in the 2018 Formula 2 championship, replacing newly-crowned champion Charles Leclerc. This will mark Gelael’s third year in the series and the first time he will be racing for Prema, who only joined the single-seater racing series in 2016 but has won both years’ driver’s championships. The Indonesian has had sub-par results in the series, with 15th position as his best championship finish. Despite that, he has driven for Toro Rosso in four free practice sessions during this year’s Formula 1 season. Rene Rosin, the team principal of Prema said in a statement; “I’m proud to welcome Sean to our team. With his multifaceted experience, he will definitely be a key resource for the 2018 F2 season as we will need to adapt to a brand-new car.” “In our first year in the series, we decided to field a mix of an experienced driver and a rookie [Pierre Gasly and Antonio Giovinazzi], while this season we went for an all-rookie program [Charles Leclerc and Antonio Fuoco]. In both cases, the results proved us right.” “For next year though, there will be a new factor in play and we will rely on experience to speed-up the development of the 2018 Dallara. Having raced and adapted himself to such diverse environments in the past, I’m sure that Sean will be able to meet his expectations and contribute to more success for the team.

Williams in talks with Rowland over 2018 seat .
Williams Formula 1 team is in talks with British driver Oliver Rowland, over a potential 2018 race seat following Felipe Massa’s retirement. Robert Kubica was the overwhelming favourite for the seat, however, following his recent post-season Abu Dhabi test, he has come under increasing pressure from other candidates. The latest driver to be in talks with the team is Rowland, who was Charles Leclerc’s closest challenger in this year’s Formula 2 championship for the majority of the season, despite finishing third in the drivers’ championship. “My team are in talks with Williams, as they are with other teams. British car, British driver it fits well,” said Rowland. “Lots of drivers seem to be in the frame for 2018, so we will just have to see what happens.” The Renault development driver has landed back in the United Kingdom, after visiting Super Formula’s rookie and manufacturer test at Suzuka earlier in the week. Prior to his first taste of Super Formula machinery, Rowland tested for two days with Racing Engineering in F2’s post-season test in Abu Dhabi as he evaluates his options for 2018. Rowland joins fellow Renault-backed driver Sergey Sirotkin, Red Bull reject Daniil Kvyat and fellow Brit Paul di Resta in competing with Kubica for the second Williams seat in 2018.
