Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson has labelled Mohamed Salah a revelation, praising the impact he has had since signing for the Anfield outfit in the summer.

Salah came off the bench to net a brace for the Reds’ against Stoke on Wednesday as the club sailed to a comfortable 3-0 victory, earning Jurgen Klopp’s men their seventh league win of the season.

Salah’s brace took the Egyptian forward back to being the sole goalscoring chart leader in the Premier League with 12, moving two clear of Tottenham’s Harry Kane. Salah has scored 17 times in all competitions this season.

Conte wary of 'dangerous' Salah

  Conte wary of 'dangerous' Salah Antonio Conte says Chelsea will need to be wary of Liverpool's forward players when they travel to Anfield on Saturday. Salah joined Chelsea from Swiss side Basel in January 2014 but failed to make an impact, subsequently spending two seasons out on loan in Italy before joining Roma on a permanent deal in 2016.Conte believes the Egypt international, who is currently the Premier League's leading goalscorer, is proving he has matured since his unsuccessful spell at Stamford Bridge."He was very young and I think now he developed a lot," Conte said."Salah is a good player and is very dangerous.

Phil Thompson, who initially doubted the 25-year old’s ability, is now convinced after several dominant displays. Thompson, talking to Premier League Daily, said;

“He’s been a revelation. Dare I say, it when we were signing him in the summer I was thinking, ‘I’ve seen this player at Chelsea and he didn’t pull up any trees for Chelsea’.”

“He didn’t have many games and I think he scored two goals in about 13 matches and I thought, he didn’t even look a player.”

“When he was at Roma, I looked at the stats of the player and thought, ‘it’s not just the goals he scores but the assists that he made.”

Thompson compared Salah to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, another player who failed to make it at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho but flourished in a different European competition, before returning to the Premier League a much stronger player. Thompson continued;

“That was one of the big things for Kevin De Bruyne when he went to Wolfsburg. He scored quite a few goals there but his assists were quite incredible and by far the best in Germany. That made me think, ‘he’s got something in his locker’.”

“That’s what I was looking for with Mo Salah before he came to Liverpool. I thought, ‘if he can reproduce that he’s got to have something in him to unlock defences’, which is what Liverpool need against packed defences and he has been an absolute star.”
