Marseille interested in Pape Souare

Marseille interested in Pape Souare Marseille are reportedly interested in signing defender Pape Souare from Crystal Palace. According to the printed edition of France Football, as covered in a report from Sport Witness, the Ligue 1 giants are keen to land the left-back. Marseille are in need of a new left-sided full-back following Patrice Evra’s ban from football, as a result of him assaulting a fan prior to a match, leading to his release. Souare has made a strong recovery from a broken leg he sustained in a car accident some time ago but doesn’t appear to be a favoured option at left-back for Palace. The Eagles have Jeffrey Schlupp and Patrick van Aanholt available in this position, too. The Senegal international worked with Marseille boss Rudi Garcia during the pair’s tenure at LOSC Lille back in 2011. They worked well together, as the team won Ligue 1 in the 2010/11 campaign. Palace are likely to be busy in the January transfer window, and Souare could be among those offloaded.

The Polish goalkeeper would command a fee in the region of £4m, the report claims, a fee which could be easily met by Palace’s funds.

His Ipswich contract expires at the end of the season, although Ipswich have an option of extending it by a further year.

Palace face Southampton away from home in the Premier League tonight, with Hennessey starting in goal.

Palace move ahead of West Ham in Babacar chase .
Crystal Palace look to have moved ahead of London rivals West Ham United in the race to sign forward Khouma Babacar from Italian side Fiorentina this month, as reported by the Daily Mail. With striker Christian Benteke not really firing so far this season and there being a heavy amount of reliance on Wilfred Zaha, Eagles boss Roy Hodgson has seen the need to improve in attacking areas if they are going to be able to get out of further danger this season. The player has been a long-term target for the club and it looks as though they will miss out on Hammers forward Diafra Sakho, as they look to improve their options. West Ham wanted to secure a deal for Babacar on loan with the potential of completing the signing in the summer but it now appears that Palace will now beat them to the signing. Babacar has scored six goals in Serie A this season in 19 matches and could well help Palace’s options up top. Palace are prepared to meet all of the terms that Fiorentina are demanding, according to the report, and a move is now imminent which both parties are happy with.
