Raiders fire Jack Del Rio; is Jon Gruden next up? Del Rio posted a 25-23 mark in three seasons with the Raiders, but they finished a disappointing 6-10 this year after going 12-4 in 2016.Sunday's loss to the Chargers dropped the Raiders to a disappointing 6-10 record on the season. There had been high hopes in Oakland after the team went 12-4 in 2016 to make the playoffs for the first time since 2002. That success led the Davis giving Del Rio to a four-year contract extension earlier this year.

While the team may still be celebrating its victory, owner Jim Crane isn't resting on his laurels. Crane confirmed Monday that the Astros are " actively pursuing " a high - end starting pitcher to help bolster an already strong rotation.

The Astros won their first World Series title last season, rallying to beat the Dodgers in seven games. While the team may still be celebrating its victory, owner Jim Crane isn't resting on his laurels.

Crane confirmed Monday that the Astros are "actively pursuing" a high-end starting pitcher to help bolster an already strong rotation.

"We're always trying to upgrade the team, so it would have to be a significant upgrade," Crane said, via MLB.com. "We're happy where we're at. I've been told that on paper we have the best team in baseball, but paper doesn't win titles."

Crane added that the organization could part with one of its many top-ranked prospects to procure a top starter. Houston made a similar move last August when it snatched Justin Verlander from the Tigers minutes before the waiver-trade deadline.

Houston could lose Dallas Keuchel after 2018, as the 2015 AL Cy Young award winner will become a free agent after next season. He also reportedly hired Scott Boras as his agent, hinting that he will test the open market.

The Astros have been linked with top free-agent arms Jake Arrieta and Yu Darvish this offseason. Darvish would be especially interesting considering his many controversies surrounding the Astros during the World Series.

Crane mentioning the farm system also means a trade is in play. Tigers ace Michael Fulmer, Pirates starter Gerrit Cole and Rays All-Star Chris Archer could all be intriguing options for the Astros.

MLB trade news: Astros actually trade for Gerrit Cole .
The Astros thought they had a trade done for the 27-year-old Wednesday, but appear to actually have one done Saturday. The Astros gave pitchers Joe Musgrove and Michael Feliz and third baseman Colin Moran to the Pirates in return. Prospect Jason Martin is also heading to Pittsburgh.
