Manchester City's winning run ended by Crystal Palace stalemate

Manchester City's winning run ended by Crystal Palace stalemate Crystal Palace halted Manchester City's pursuit of a record-equalling 19th successive league victory by holding them to a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park. On only the second occasion this season that City have dropped points in the Premier League, they were even fortunate to avoid defeat to opponents they beat 5-0 in September after Luka Milivojevic missed a late penalty.Their 18 consecutive victories already represented a Premier League record, but Palace's resilience means they fell one short of the European record set by Bayern Munich, also then managed by Pep Guardiola, in 2014.

Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt has revealed, in a tweet, that he is happy at the club and in no rush to leave.

Responding to a fan who was worried that Van Aanholt could be leaving, he replied with this…

He scored twice in 11 appearances for Palace at the backend of last season, endearing himself to the home crowd at Selhurst Park.

There has been speculation that he could leave the club this month, but that appears to have been watered down by the man himself.

Crystal Palace Player Ratings: Manchester City (H)

Crystal Palace Player Ratings: Manchester City (H) Crystal Palace pulled off a surprise result at home to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles were able to secure a 0-0 draw against the Citizens, who remain unbeaten this season. Palace are now only the second side in the Premier League to have taken points from Pep Guardiola’s side this season. It was a cagey yet entertaining affair throughout, with both sides coming close on some occasions. Palace had a golden chance to score in the second-half when the ball found its way to an unmarked Andros Townsend on the left. However, he ballooned his free shot over the bar. The Eagles were awarded, rather dubiously, a last gasp penalty too. Raheem Sterling was judged to have brought down Wilfried Zaha in the box. Luka Milivojevic stepped up and his penalty was poor, with Ederson saving it with his legs to keep City’s unbeaten league record in tact. Palace were made to rue their missed opportunities on the day but it was a performance to be proud of. Here are our player ratings.

Patrick van Aanholt capitalised on a Ryan Shawcross mistake to give Crystal Palace a 2-1 win and relegate hapless Stoke. The club left it too long to dismiss Mark Hughes, under whom the club had stagnated, waiting until January to make the change.

Crystal Palace had secured safety last week when they beat Stoke City and on Sunday they controlled the match against the bottom team on the table.

The Dutchman is yet to get off the mark this season, with Palace struggling for goals all round in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old was linked to Everton last month, who are looking to strengthen their defence.

Liverpool would be a great club for Zaha, says De Boer .
The striker could make a significant impact at Anfield or another big club should he leave Crystal Palace, according to the DutchmanFrank de Boer feels Liverpool would be a great option for Wilfried Zaha, who could "play for a much bigger club than Crystal Palace", according to the Dutchman.
