Arsenal have scheduled a meeting with Bordeaux to discuss a potential deal for Brazilian forward Malcom, Sky in Italy are reporting.

The 20-year-old, who is also wanted by arch-rivals Tottenham this month, has emerged as an option to potentially replace Alexis Sanchez should he leave for Manchester City either this month, or in the summer.

French club Bordeaux are believed to value Malcom at over £40m, and he is also reportedly of interest to Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Arsenal closing in on Malcom deal

Arsenal closing in on Malcom deal Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Bordeaux winger Malcom before the end of the week. According to The Mirror, Arsenal are close to securing a £35m deal to sign Malcom. The report claims that Malcom’s representatives were in London last week, ahead of a potential switch to The Emirates. Arsenal are looking to replace Alexis Sanchez, who is set to sign for Manchester United in the coming days. The club are set to pocket £35m from the Sanchez deal, which looks set to be reinvested in Malcom with no delay. Arsene Wenger wants his replacement in as soon as possible, with Malcom his number one target. The 20-year-old has scored seven goals in Ligue 1 this season and is seen as one of the most promising young forwards in Europe. The Mirror also claim that a number of top sides from across Europe have been interested in Malcom, though Arsenal look set to have a clear run at him this month.

“The 21-year-old has long been linked with a switch to north London and Arsenal have leapfrogged their rivals Spurs to become the new favourites in the race for Malcom ’s signature.

Malcom posted on social media last week that he was learning English, suggesting he was preparing himself for a move across the channel.

He is a left-footed attacker who can play anywhere behind a centre-forward and could be a replacement for Sanchez, whose future at Arsenal remains shrouded in doubt.

Sky in Italy reported earlier this week that City, who are yet to make an offer this month, have a financial package ready for the Chile star should he join on a Bosman free transfer when his Gunners contract expires in the summer.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger reiterated his desire to keep Sanchez this week after he was left out of the starting XI for the goalless draw with Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg, and defended the player's attitude.

Bordeaux insist that Malcom is not for sale .
Both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with moves for Bordeaux forward Malcom in recent weeks but it looks like the prospect of the Brazilian moving to the Premier League this month look to have been dashed. New Bordeaux manager Gus Poyet and the club President Stéphane Martin reiterated that the 20-year-old was not for sale, with Poyet even saying that he would not have agreed to take the job as manager if the forward was going to be allowed to leave. As reported by GFFN, Poyet said: “I immediately asked if Malcom was staying or leaving [when I was interviewed]. I was told he’s staying. So I said good, we can continue this interview.” Martin also confirmed that the club has no intentions of selling their star man. “I have said it before and I will say it again, Malcom is not leaving this month.” Recent stories suggested that the Gunners had distanced themselves from a January move for the Brazilian, so this news could actually be a positive as he could be available in the summer. At one point, it looked like he would be signing for Spurs, but if that’s not the case, Arsenal could go back in for him at the end of the season.
