West Ham looking at Swansea's Alfie Mawson

West Ham looking at Swansea's Alfie Mawson West Ham United are set to bolster their defensive options with the signing of Swansea defender Alfie Mawson next month as reported by ESPN. Mawson has been playing well despite Swansea’s defensive problems and would certainly not be out of place in the Hammers backline as they look to tighten up. Hammer boss David Moyes is keen to improve the squad with players who have Premier League experience and this is something which Mawson has in abundance after joining the Welsh side in 2016. Mawson played a vital role in helping his side avoid relegation last season putting in some brilliant performances and is one of the best up and coming defenders in the league. The youngster has played every minute for his side this season and the Hammers are set to make a move for Mawson who last season was thought of as a potential full England international. West Ham are looking to exploit the Swans situation of not having a manager in place at present, although it looks likely that former Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvahal is set to take the role, just days after being sacked at Hillsborough.

West Ham have been told by Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal that if they want to land Alfie Mawson this month, they will have to stump up a fee of £50 million.

Carvalhal addressed the media on Thursday ahead of his side’s game at Newcastle this weekend and Mawson was a hot topic.

The Hammers are stated to hold a keen interest in the promising defender, who has been an important for Swansea in the last two seasons. David Moyes is claimed to be an admirer of Mawson’s talents and is keen to bring him to London this month.

Carvalhal, though, has made his stance on the matter abundantly clear, stating that it will take a monumental bid to lure Mawson away. As quoted by Football London, the Swans boss said:

Swansea keen to take back Ayew in Mawson deal

Swansea keen to take back Ayew in Mawson deal West Ham could be asked to part ways with Andre Ayew in their potential deal for Swansea defender Alfie Mawson. According to a report from the Mirror, the Hammers’ interest in Mawson is intensifying ahead of the January transfer window, but Swansea will not sell their star defender on the cheap. Ayew was an important player for Swansea during his spell there and was a potent threat throughout his tenure at the Liberty Stadium. Following his big-money move to West Ham, though, he has struggled to recreate his best form despite turning in some promising performances. It’s claimed in the report that Swansea’s prime intention in the New Year is to recruit a quality attacker player, as new boss Carlos Carvalhal aims to pull the Swans out of a relegation dogfight. David Moyes is understood to be a keen admirer of Mawson’s talents, with the defender reportedly valued at a sum of £25m.

Swansea face a battle to hold on to their central defender Alfie Mawson in the January transfer window amid serious interest from West Ham .

“When I signed (as manager last month) it was very clear we would try and bring in players to improve the team. We will not sell the best players in January, the message is clear. I have had guarantees from the chairman, but it depends if someone comes in and gives £50million, £100million, £250million.”

“You can never say that it will not happen, but the fundamental idea is not to sell players and try to improve the team.”

West Ham want to solidify their defence in the January transfer window and Mawson was thought to be one of their prime targets. With a price tag such as this, though, it seems a deal is extremely unlikely.
