In fact, he could even be back to full fitness in time to face Bournemouth on Sunday, despite suffering ankle ligament damage.

Wilshere, who captained the Gunners in the cup tie, was substituted in the second half after he seemingly hurt himself in the process of blocking a cross.

Manager Arsene Wenger said after the game that Wilshere had suffered a slight sprain, but couldn’t be drawn into how long the midfielder would be out of action.

Wenger sets a date for Wilshere contract talks

Wenger sets a date for Wilshere contract talks Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that contract talks with Jack Wilshere are set to take place in the New Year after the Englishman again put in another fine display for the Gunners, the Daily Mail report. Wilshere, 25, is again enjoying a spell in Wenger’s starting line-up and proved his worth with his fine assist for Alexis Sanchez in the 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Thursday evening. Along with Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, Wilshere’s current deal is up at the end of the season, however, the England international is hopeful of securing a new deal to keep him at the Emirates. The midfielder has now started and completed the past four Premier League games for the Gunners, all four in which Arsenal haven’t lost, as he looks to make Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad. When Wenger was again questioned over the future of Wilshere and proposed contract talks, the Arsenal boss said: “We need to sit down with him. Beginning of January, it’s planned. There is no delay. I said we would sort out his situation in December, end of December. I told him we want to meet and sit down with him to talk about the future. That’s what I did.

Thankfully, Wenger was happy to confirm that the injury was suffered to Wilshere’s “good ankle”. The 26-year old has seen his career riddled with a string of ankle injuries that have caused his career trajectory to stagnate.

However, Wilshere is enjoying a good run of form at the moment, having returned to the Arsenal line-up last month after recovering from a broken leg he sustained last season while on loan with Bournemouth.

And the England international made sure to assure Arsenal fans that he wouldn’t be missing for long.

Arsenal drew 0-0 with Chelsea in the first leg of the semi-final, with the return match set to be played at the Emirates on January 24.
