Theo Walcott prefers loan move away from Arsenal

Theo Walcott prefers loan move away from Arsenal Everton target Theo Walcott is open to leaving Arsenal this summer, but he would prefer a loan deal, according to football.london. Theo Walcott has yet to start a single Premier League game for Arsenal this season, making just four league appearances for a total of 47 minutes. All of his starts have been in either the Carabao Cup or the Europa League, and the 28-year old winger is aware that he must leave the Emirates to reignite his career. As well as Everton, West Ham and former club Southampton are also interested in signing Walcott in January, and Arsenal are believed to be happy to let him go. However, according to football.london, a loan agreement seems the most likely move for all parties. As well as Walcott’s £100,000 plus weekly wage proving problematic with a transfer fee also included, Walcott himself would prefer a loan switch. The England international still believes he is good enough to be a top six player, and would prefer a loan deal to help put himself in the shop window ahead of a higher profile switch in the summer. Despite this, a permanent move has not been completely full out. Walcott will also not cause any problems behind the scenes to engineer a move if Arsenal don’t allow him to move on, due to his respect for manager Arsene Wenger. Walcott has been with Arsenal since January 2006, when he signed from Southampton as a 16-year old for an initial fee of £5million.

Birmingham head coach Steve Cotterill has deemed Arsenal loan duo surplus to requirements, and could explore cancelling their loan deals, according to the Mirror.

Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall joined the Blues’ in the summer during then-manager Harry Redknapp’s spending spree that saw 13 new players come in to St Andrews. However, the Gunners pair have unfortunately seen their loan spells turn sour.

Redknapp’s successor and former assistant Cotterill wants to cut his squad down so he can manage a more united unit for the relegation battle the club face, and neither Jenkinson or Bramall look likely to feature.

Jenkinson has made just one appearance for the club this season, despite returning to fitness following a shoulder injury. Bramall has also struggled for minutes, appearing just three times.

The Arsenal duo would join Everton’s Liam Walsh in having their loan deals cut short. The Birmingham boss has also shipped out his namesake David Cotterill and Emilio Nsue since taking charge of the club in October.
