Steven Davis calls for togetherness

Steven Davis calls for togetherness Southampton club captain Steven Davis has called for togetherness as the club enter a crucial period. Davis, as quoted by the Mirror, addressed the media following his side’s 1-0 win away at Fulham in the FA Cup on Saturday and spoke about how the fans are currently responding to Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino. “It’s important we all stick together. We’re not in a position any of us want to be in, fans, players and staff alike.” The under-fire Argentine boss has been the subject of much criticism of late and Saints fans directed plenty of vitriol towards him, despite the win at Fulham. His decision to withdraw Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for Mario Lemina late on caused quite the stir among the travelling Saints faithful, further contributing to the scrutiny which surrounds Pellegrino. Davis, though, wants to see the whole club pulling together to try and help them out of their current relegation battle. “The most important thing is we’re all fighting together to move forward in the right direction. Stuff like that doesn’t really help.” “We need the fans more than ever at this point, whenever you’re struggling. To be fair, I thought they were in good voice today as well — and they came here in good numbers.” Saints sit in 17th place on the Premier League table at just over the halfway stage of the season and know that they have to pick up points sooner rather than later. Next up for them is Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The mission of Three Saints Outdoor is to equip and train retailers and enthusiasts with products and skills to experience and enjoy all the Southwest has to offer.

Stand Out .

Mauricio Pellegrino will be disappointed with his side as they drew 2-2 in a must-win game against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The visitors started brilliantly with a 2-0 lead going into the break. However, the Hornets managed the score twice, preventing Southampton gaining all three points.

The first goal came in the 20th minute with an excellent run by Shane Long down the right side of the pitch who cut the ball back to James Ward-Prowse and he neatly tucked the ball into the bottom left corner past the goalkeeper.

The Saints doubled their lead minutes before half-time with another superb run from Long, who found Dusan Tadic who moved the ball across to Ward-Prowse and he once again found the back of the net.

Southampton to face Watford in the FA Cup fourth round

Southampton to face Watford in the FA Cup fourth round Southampton will take on Watford at home in the FA Cup fourth round, it has been confirmed. The Saints gained their passage through to the next round of the illustrious competition at the weekend. Mauricio Pellegrino saw his side come away from Craven Cottage with a 1-0 win away at Championship outfit Fulham. James Ward-Prowse scored the game’s only goal. Saints exited at this stage last season as they succumbed to a 5-0 home defeat against Arsenal and will hope to go one better this season when they lock horns with The Hornets. Southampton’s main priority at this stage simply has to be staying in the Premier League, with the club currently situated in 17th place and only above the relegation zone on goal difference. However, an FA Cup run would certainly be well received by the supporters, who will hope that their side can defeat Watford in the fourth round.

However, the hosts managed to get a goal back with an Andre Gray header which fell kindly to him after a powerful strike from Daryl Janmaat forced a fantastic save, which was tipped on to the crossbar from Alex McCarthy.

Southampton were unfortunate to not keep a hold of their lead as Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure controversially bundled the ball into the net with his hand in the 90th minute.

Although the second half could’ve been better for the Saints, they did display a very good first-half performance and with that being said, I have picked out my three standout performers.

Shane Long

Long played a vital part in both goals for Southampton; he managed to bag himself an assist for the first goal and worked the ball forward well for the second. Throughout the game, he tirelessly chased after the ball making himself a nuisance for the Hornet’s defence.

Pellegrino frustrated about late goal

Pellegrino frustrated about late goal Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino was left frustrated after his side let a two-goal led slip against Watford at Vicarage Road this afternoon as reported by the Saints official website. Saints took the lead in the first half thanks to two strikes from midfielder James Ward-Prowse had given his side a well-deserved lead at the break only for Watford to respond after the interval. Saints once more failed to build on their advantage and instead held on for what they thought would be a massive three points on for Watford to level up late on. The Saints boss job is now coming under real pressure and the next win looks like being a long way off despite coming so close to victory in this encounter. The Saints boss spoke to the media after the draw and was left disappointed by the manner of the Watford leveller against his side. ““You want there to be justice for everyone, but today was an injustice for us,” said the boss.“I thought we played a really good first half. We showed we can be dangerous in open play on the counter-attack, and in defence for most of the game we played well.” He spoke about his sides difficulty dealing with Watford’s frontline with the moves which they made. ““When you are winning 2-0, you expect your opponent to play very direct and it’s something that’s difficult to defend because maybe they are a little bit better than us in this aspect. “You have to put an extra body in front of the back four, which means you have one less body in front of them.“We did ok – most of the time we did well because I don’t remember many chances for Watford in the second half, just long balls and some crosses. “But we didn’t have the good luck that you need to win.

Wesley Hoedt

After coming back into the side from a delayed concussion he suffered at Manchester United, Hoedt put in another excellent defensive performance, especially in the first half. The Dutch international put in some great last-ditch challenges to ensure Southampton didn’t concede any more goals. Hoedt appears to have solidified his position in the starting 11 and the Saints will be hoping he can keep this form up.

James Ward-Prowse

Without question, Ward-Prowse deserves to be on this list. After scoring in the FA Cup fixture against Fulham, Ward-Prowse managed to impressively bag himself a brace to give Southampton a 2-0 advantage in the first half. He’s seeming to have a real eye for goal after now scoring three goals in two games. This performance has surely secured his place for the next game against Spurs.

Southampton vs Tottenham: Match preview

Southampton vs Tottenham: Match preview Southampton host Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this weekend as they look to get back to winning ways in after failing to win in their last 11 matches. Saints haven’t won since the end of November in the league and are right in the mix of it at the bottom of the Premier League, meaning a result this weekend is crucial. The hosts come into the game off the back of a 2-2 draw at Watford last weekend, after a controversial handball from Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré stopped the Saints from claiming a much-needed victory. As for Spurs, it was a much more straightforward game as they claimed a comfortable 4-0 win over Everton at Wembley with Harry Kane becoming their all-time top scorer in the Premier League in the process. The Saints have really struggled to see games out this season and have lost 11 points from winning positions since October which has resulted in their slide down the league. On the other hand, Spurs come into the game in some great form winning four of their last five matches in the Premier League and will provide a stern test for the Saints. Southampton have really struggled to pick up many points in front of their own supporters winning just three of the 12 home games which they have played so far this season. As for Spurs, they have performed well on the road this season picking up 19 points from their 11 away games so far this season.
