Ben Stokes pleads not guilty to affray at Bristol Court

Ben Stokes pleads not guilty to affray at Bristol Court England all-rounder Ben Stokes pleaded not guilty to affray at Bristol Magistrates’ Court after he was charged due to an incident outside a nightclub back in September 2017. The 26-year-old claims that he acted in self defence and has been released on bail. His trial will now take place at Bristol Crown Court on March 12th. During the hearing, District Judge Simon Cooper said: “From what I have seen, heard and read this was an indecent of sustained violence in area of the night time economy of Bristol. All had been drinking, weapons were involved at start of the incident. Significant injury was caused to one of the people. The mater does fall within the top level of my sentencing guidelines. On pleas of not guilty, I am satisfied that the likely sentence for at least one of these alleged participants is well in excess of this court’s sentencing powers for a charge of affray. This case will be tried in the Crown Court. I note that there is considerable national interest in the matter.

Australia crush New Zealand to win T20 tri-series .
Australia cruised to a comfortable victory over New Zealand in the Trans-Tasman T20 series final to maintain their perfect winning record in the tournament, according to a report on the Daily Mail. The win was confirmed by an unsatisfactory method as they secured a 19-run win against New Zealand under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in the rain-affected final. They finished the tournament with an unbeaten record over five matches, which included a comprehensive win over England. The title has seen them shoot up the world rankings from seventh to first place. Australia captain David Warner was delighted with the performance of the team. He said: “Right from the get go we played superb cricket. I just asked the guys to execute with energy in everything we did and they have.” “People talk about us not taking T20 seriously, but this bunch have come with superb form and I couldn’t be prouder of the guys. It proves the great depth in Australia cricket.” New Zealand only posted a modest score of 150 for 9, which led to Australian batsmen Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch to comfortably lead them to victory. The only negative news for Australia from the win is the injury suffered by batsman Chris Lynn, who dislocated his shoulder while diving. Lynn will return to Brisbane to have further scans on the injury which will then reveal the severity of the injury.
