Newcastle eye summer move for German U21 star

Newcastle eye summer move for German U21 star Rafa Benitez is set to re-launch his attempts to sign Besiktas midfielder Tolgay Arslan after a failed bid for the German, according to reports. The 27-year-old attracted interest from many clubs in January, including Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen, however, Arslan ended up staying at Besiktas. Newcastle have lost one of their last six games, a run which includes a victory against Manchester United at St. James’ Park and although Premier League survival is the main priority for Benitez, he is already planning for life in the top flight next year. Newcastle have struggled with a lack of strength in depth this season, and have done well to be in the position they currently are due to these circumstances. Tolgay has made 36 appearances this season and has been instrumental in Besiktas being in a title fight and reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League. There are currently four recognised central midfielders at Benitez’ disposal, so adding an extra experienced man in the middle will create some healthy competition.

French Ligue 1 . Should Newcastle manage to get a deal for the PSG shot- stopper over the line, it would be a real coup for Benitez’s side as the club look to cement their place in the Premier League this coming season.

There has been plenty of talk about an alleged lack of ambition on Newcastle United’s part in the transfer market so links with arguably Europe’s most exciting goalkeeping prospect should raise plenty of eyebrows on Tyneside. Lafont became the youngest shot- stopper ever to appear in Ligue 1 when

Newcastle United are reportedly planning an audacious swoop for Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont.

According to a report from French news outlet L’Equipe, the Magpies are one of several clubs to have expressed an interest in signing the youngster, who has emerged as one of the brightest talents in Ligue 1.

Lafont burst into the first-team picture at the tender age of 16 and has since been a mainstay in the Toulouse side. He has been in impressive form this season and his stock is only continuing to rise.

Newcastle have long been on the lookout for a new goalkeeper who can retain a starting berth for years to come but have struggled to recruit a reliable shot stopper in recent times. Although, loanee goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is certainly showing signs of promise since his January move.

19-year-old Lafont is a highly coveted young player, who is being chased by top clubs around Europe, such as Napoli.

Newcastle's Merino keen on Spain return in the future .
Newcastle United’s Mikel Merino has talked up the chances of one day returning to his home country to play in La Liga. As reported by AS, Merino admits that a move back to Spain is something he would like to achieve during his career. “Yes. I am very happy to be in the Premier and the experience in the Bundesliga, but someday I would like to return to the Spanish League.” In recent weeks Athletic Bilbao have been linked with a £13 million move for the former Borussia Dortmund man. Merino has been one of Newcastle’s star performers in their return to the Premier League this season. The Spaniard has flittered in and out of the team but often looked a cut above those around him when he has featured regularly for Rafa Benitez. Merino’s future at the club may well depend on whether or not the club can retain their place in the Premier League. The Magpies are four points above the drop zone with just eight games left to play this season.
