Dzeko was "really pleased" with Chelsea interest

Dzeko was Roma striker Edin Dzeko has admitted that he was “really pleased” that Chelsea made such efforts to sign him in the January transfer window. Speaking to the Italian media, as quoted by the Daily Mail, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international opened up on his plans for the future and insisted that he is more than happy with life at Roma. “I am happy in Rome, with life in Rome and I don’t like to look back at media rumours.” However, Dzeko did indeed admit that the level of interest from Chelsea was pleasing, with the Blues narrowly missing out on a deal for the ex-Manchester City striker. “They are sometimes true, sometimes just pumping for clicks. There was an offer, negotiations and I was really pleased that Chelsea wanted me. That is all I want to say about that, while I am enjoying in Rome.” Dzeko has been in good form for Roma this season and is a hugely important player for the Serie A side. The club did not want to part company with the player during the mid-season transfer window and as a result of his contract demands, Chelsea walked away from the deal. The Blues instead pursued Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud as their alternative to Dzeko, but the Frenchman is yet to find the net for the club since his move.

"We were patient. We knew that one goal could see us reach the quarter-finals. We scored that goal and then we did everything all together.

"I did [think a second effort was in] but the ball somehow went wide of the goal. That [one that went in] was the golden one.

"I'm proud of this team because I think we knocked out a very strong team."

He added: "Everyone deserves a standing ovation because we all gave absolutely everything, right up until the last minute. We deserve to go through, to be in the quarter-finals."

And Roma legend Francesco Totti also congratulated his former side on Twitter.

"A fantastic result, a fantastic Roma: among the best eight sides in Europe," he posted. "We push forward onto the next round."

Chelsea ready to go back in for Roma's Dzeko .
Chelsea could try and lure Edin Dzeko back to the Premier League once again in the summer. Reports in Spain from El Gol Digital, as cited by Football Italia claim that the Blues feel they could secure a cut-price deal at the end of the season. The Blues were heavily linked with a move for the former Manchester City forward following his impressive stint with Roma. The Italian were reportedly happy to sell but the player, who was thought to be settled in Rome, was unable to agree on personal terms over a move. Chelsea did sign his former Roma team-mate Emerson Palmieri but was unable to convince the striker to swap Italy for England. A £50 million double deal for both Dzeko and Emerson had been discussed in January, but with the striker recently turning 32, they’re unlikely to be willing to pay a similar amount this summer.
