The board at Arsenal seem to have lost all faith in the ageing keeper Petr Cech, who turns 36 this month, and they will apparently look to bring in a younger alternative. The goalkeeper that the Gunners want is the Atletico Madrid shot-stopper Jan Oblak, who kept Arsenal out last night in their Europa semi-final second leg. The 25-year-old won;t come cheap for the Gunners though, with his buyout clause being close to £70m.

Atletico, however are determined to keep the player at the club, but if they can’t then at least make sure that they get as much as they can out of the deal.

Oblak’s reputation has been growing and growing since his move to Spain in 2014 from Benfica and has attracted a host of clubs in him.

Atletico Madrid expect Jan Oblak to join Arsenal or Liverpool this summer and as such, they’ve already lined up a replacement, according to reports in Spain. Diego Simeone hass reportedly accepted that one of the English clubs will meet his goalkeeper’s release clause and as such, he is repared to pay £70m to activate the release clause of Kepa Arrizabalaga, who is currently Athletic Bilbao’s number one goalkeeper. Both of the Premier League clubs will see the number one position as a priority over the summer, with Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper Loris Karius making two mistakes in the recent Champions League Final in the 3-1 loss to Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Petr Cech and David Ospina have been underperforming all season at the Emirates in a disappointing final season for Arsene Wenger, as the Gunners finished sixth. So with both of the two Premier League clubs in desperate need of a goalkeeper, it looks as if one of the world’s best could be on his way to brighten up English football.
