Southampton line up summer move for Tom Rogic

Southampton line up summer move for Tom Rogic Southampton are planning a summer bid for Celtic’s Tom Rogic, according to the Daily Record. The 25-year-old has had an impressive season during Celtic’s seventh consecutive title-winning campaign, including four goals in four games against Glasgow rivals Rangers. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers conceded this week that they may have to lose the attacking midfielder in the next window. Rodgers said: “Tom is a brilliant player, but you have to respect that a player’s career is short. I don’t think he is questioning the club, I don’t think he is questioning anything here. It’s just a life decision, really… There’s nothing sinister in it. He’ll take his time and I’ll always support players whatever their decisions are.” Rogic is out of contract next summer, and if he is to have a successful World Cup with Australia, he could have plenty of potential suitors. Southampton have done plenty of business with Celtic in the past, and seem to have a good relationship with the Glasgow-based side, however, the deal could be subject to Saints remaining in the Premier League next season as Rogic will not want to be playing Championship football. As the Australian hasn’t put pen to paper on a new deal, Celtic will need to decide if they want to cash in whilst they have the chance to, or to keep him and potentially let Rogic leave for free next summer.

Rogic out to help Celtic secure more silverware .
Tom Rogic is desperate to help Celtic to yet more success in the future. The Australian international spoke of his desire to win more silverware at Celtic Park after committing his long-term future to the club. Rogic put pen to paper on a new five-year contract with the Bhoys in recent weeks, allaying fears of him seeking pastures new this summer after a period of uncertainty. As quoted by the Daily Record, the midfielder discussed Brendan Rodgers’ desire to keep Celtic on their toes ahead of next season, whilst outlining his ambition to continue succeeding in the Scottish Premiership. “The manager doesn’t let any complacency set in. There’s always hunger and a desire for more – that’s what’s most important. We can’t rest after last season and think we’ve achieved everything. We’ve proven this season, with the trophies that we’ve already won, that it’s relentless, it does continue. There’s always going to be a next trophy.” Rogic is a vital player for Celtic and the news of him penning a new, long-term contract with the club came as exciting but relieving news for many surrounding Celtic Park. “The manager says there are no small gains when you play for this football club. You have a responsibility every time you go out on the pitch to represent the club as best you can. I certainly have the hunger and desire in me to win more trophies.” “This is a club that players come to to win trophies. I want to keep that going and hopefully, in the years to come, I can continue that.” The playmaker will undoubtedly play a big role in Celtic’s pursuit of silverware next season, with the team heading into the 2018/19 campaign after a season full of honours.
