Stoke City have released veteran pair Glen Johnson and Stephen Ireland following their relegation from the Premier League.

Johnson and Ireland made nine and four league appearances respectively in 2017-18 as the Potters dropped into the Championship after a 10-year stay in the top flight, with neither player offered a new contract.

Former England international Johnson joined Stoke on a free transfer from Liverpool in 2015, and played 57 times for the club in the Premier League.

Ireland struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular, having signed from Aston Villa in 2014, with injury problems hindering the midfielder.

Stoke have offered back-up goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard a new deal, with speculation over Jack Butland's future persisting.

Liverpool meet with Xherdan Shaqiri's representatives .
Officials from Liverpool met with the representatives of Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri on Friday, according to Dean Jones of Bleacher Report. The Reds are in the market for some new attackers to help add depth to their squad and apparently see Shaqiri as a player who can come in and help them. The Swiss international apparently has a £12m relegation release clause in his contract which can now be activated as the Potters were unable to stay in the top-flight. The 26-year-old is currently on international duty with Switzerland ahead of the World Cup and he’s apparently eager to find a new club before the tournament starts. Shaqiri, who scored 15 goals in 92 games for Stoke, refused to comment about the speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool when interviewed a few days ago, but it appears that the Reds are interested in signing him this summer.
