Celtic targeting John McGinn

Celtic targeting John McGinn Celtic have entered the race for Hibernian star John McGinn, according to the Daily Record. McGinn is being highly sought after this summer with Rangers also keeping tabs on the Scotland international. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to strengthen his squad before the Champions League qualifiers get underway and McGinn is said to be high on his list of transfer targets. The 23-year-old had been linked with a move to Sunderland earlier this week but it is believed that McGinn is not keen on the idea of a move to League One. McGinn’s granddad previously held the role of Celtic chairman, with the 23-year-old having grown up as an avid fan of the club. It is being reported that Celtic could attempt to use midfielder Scott Allan as a sweetener to get any potential deal for McGinn over the line. McGinn is currently on international duty with Scotland in Peru.

In 2012, the Northern Irish boss signed Allen for Liverpool for a fee of £15 million. With Rodgers a clear fan of the 28-year-old, many considered him a target for the Scottish Premiership champions. With Stuart Armstrong having just one year left on his current deal at Celtic, his immediate future remains unclear. However, even if Allen became available for a move, the finances may seem just too far for the Hoops who have already splashed £9 million to sign young striker Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal from Paris Saint-Germain.
