Chelsea eye Laurent Blanc as alternative to Maurizio Sarri

Chelsea eye Laurent Blanc as alternative to Maurizio Sarri Chelsea have reportedly held talks with former PSG manager Laurent Blanc as they consider their options to replace Antonio Conte this summer. The Blues have not officially dismissed Conte yet but it appears almost certain that the Italian will be relieved of his duties as the club’s first-team manager in the near future. Chelsea are understood to have identified Maurizio Sarri as their first-choice to replace Conte but a deal is proving to be difficult, with the Italian still bound to a release clause within his contract at Napoli despite his recent sacking. It’s claimed by France Football (via Metro) though that the Blues recently staged a meeting with Blanc to gauge his compatibility with the role at Stamford Bridge, with the club making contingency plans in case their move for Sarri collapses. According to the French claims, Chelsea’s director Marina Granovskaia spoke to the ex-PSG man, who has been out of work for two years now following his exit from the Parc des Princes.

Chelsea are leaning towards making Laurent Blanc their new manager, with RMC Sport reporting that the Frenchman is the cheapest solution for the Blues.

Antonio Conte’s exit from Stamford Bridge appears to be little more than a formality at this stage, with the Blues actively searching for replacements to step in this summer.

Maurizio Sarri was targeted but due to contractual issues following his sacking at Napoli, it seems he will not be making the move to English football this summer.

Slavisa Jokanovic, who recently guided Fulham to the Premier League, has also been targeted but it appears as though Blanc has jumped to the front of the queue.

The former Manchester United defender has not been in management for some years now following his exit from PSG.

However, it seems Chelsea are open to making him their new manager, with viable candidates becoming increasingly scarce as they push ahead with their plans to replace Conte in the managerial hot-seat.

Chelsea travel to Huddersfield on the opening day .
Chelsea will travel to Huddersfield Town on the opening day of the new Premier League season. It has been confirmed that Blues will make the trip to David Wagner’s side before facing Arsenal the following week in their first home game of the season. Despite not yet appointing a new manager or confirming the future of head coach Antonio Conte, the Blues will be optimistic about the trip to Huddersfield. Chelsea will be pleased with the opening run of fixtures, with only Arsenal and Liverpool featuring from the top six clubs. Games against Cardiff and Bournemouth in September present the Chelsea boss, should Conte leave the club, a good chance to hit the ground running. The Blues also face a busy, but favourable Christmas period with games against Leicester, Watford and London rivals Crystal Palace.
