Liverpool have expressed an interest in signing Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri, according to a report from David Maddock of The Mirror.

The 26-year-old has a clause in his contract that means he can be purchased for just £12m after Stoke’s relegation and Liverpool are apparently interested in bringing him to Anfield.

XHERDAN SHAQIRI insists he is not interested in a move to the Premier League from Inter Milan this summer. The Switzerland international is said to be attracting interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, who were both linked with him in the last transfer window.

Everton and Roma are also interested in the former Bayern Munich man, who has scored 15 goals in 92 games for the Potters since his arrival in 2015.

Liverpool are keen to add depth to their attack and see Shaqiri as a good option to have behind their dynamic wide duo of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Whether Shaqiri is happy to take a back up role will be the key to any deal as he’s be more likely to play regularly elsewhere.

Liverpool cool interest in Xherdan Shaqiri .
Liverpool have cooled their interest in Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri, with Jurgen Klopp instead looking at other targets. Shaqiri had reportedly been a top target for Klopp this Summer after Stoke City’s relegation to the Championship. The Swiss star had been a key player for the Potters after signing for the side in 2015. However, it would be too late to keep Stoke in the Premier League. However, Liverpool have reportedly cooled their interest in signing the Swiss winger, despite the reported £12.5 million clause in his contract that would allow the Reds to easily sign the midfielder. Sky Sports, via the Mirror, report that Liverpool have dropped their interest in Shaqiri, with the midfielder involved in Switzerland’s first game of the World Cup against Brazil today. Liverpool also pulled out of a deal to sign Nabil Fekir, with the Reds short of crucial attacking options going forward. Klopp’s side have also been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.
