World Cup Group C - Predictions

World Cup Group C - Predictions It’s a given that the World Cup in Russia will have its favourites and France are one of the nations expected to go close this year. Their group, however, could provide some of the most competitive fixtures of the whole tournament, with Peru, Australia and Denmark all looking to progress to the knockout stages. France will be expected to top the group and with the squad that they possess, it’s no surprise. The rest of Group C will no doubt know that France are by far the strongest side on paper, but they are sure to enter the tournament with no fear and a firm belief that they can take up one of the top two qualification places in the group. Let’s not forget the French misery in the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, where Thierry Henry, Zinedine Zidane and co. missed out on qualification to the knockout stages at the expense of Senegal and this year’s group opponents Denmark, who topped the group 16 years ago. How will Group C pan out this year in Russia? Let’s take a look.

The countdown continues…

We are now just a few days away from the 2018 World Cup kicking off in Russia, and it’ll soon be time for the start of Group G, where we see England, Belgium, Tunisia and Panama pitted together.

Belgium enter as frontrunners to proceed to the knockout stages as group winners, narrowly in front of England  – they are also are sixth and seventh favourites to win the tournament, respectively.

The vast majority are tipping the outcome of Group G as a straightforward one, in terms of who goes through anyway, and I for one also sit on that bandwagon.

World Cup Group F - predictions

World Cup Group F - predictions When Germany were drawn against Sweden, Mexico, and South Korea in Group F, most people just assumed that the current World Champions would breeze through the group without getting out of first gear. However, after one win in their last six friendly matches, the Germans are showing signs of weakness and do not appear to be as invincible as previously thought. Nevertheless, Die Mannschaft are still expected to progress as group winners but how will they fare against Asian minnows South Korea, the always lively Mexicans, and the dangerous Swedes? With all due respect, Tunisia and Panama will struggle to match the experience of The Three Lions and The Red Devils, and in all seriousness, will just be enjoying the stage they are performing on.

It seems set in stone that the final Group G fixture between Belgium and England will decide which nation proceeds as group winners, but a tricky test in the Round of 16 and beyond awaits, regardless of which position they finish in.

Here is how I think one of the easier groups to predict will play out this summer – a statement that I’m fully aware could come back to bite me hard!

Denmark v Australia: Match Preview .
Day eight of the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia sees the return of Group C, where Denmark take on Australia. Denmark face the Aussies on the back of a hard fought 1-0 win against Peru thanks to Yussuf Poulsen’s second half goal, whilst Australia have it all to do after falling to a 2-1 defeat against France despite an encouraging performance. With France expected to beat Peru, this contest could see Denmark join them in the last 16 with a win, but Australia will want to avoid an early World Cup exit and will take plenty of positives from their group opener against the European Championship finalists to try and get a result here. Denmark should expect a similar test here as they did with Peru. Players such as Aaron Mooy and Tom Rogic never look to allow opposition midfielders time and space with the ball, something which William Kvist and Christian Eriksen will need to be wary of. They have an abundance of energy and stamina and a lot of their good work starts here; they will need this to push Denmark for a result here, but will also need to be a lot more clinical in the final third. Whilst Peru gave it a good go, Denmark managed to show some good organisation and were quick to take their chance on the counter attack. They also have a great advantage with Christian Eriksen and his specialism with a dead ball, so Australia should be wary of committing fouls in dangerous areas. This could be just as close as the two opening group games and with both nations needing a result for different reasons, you would once again expect a goal to be enough to separate these sides if somebody was going to win it. Kick off is at 1pm in Samara.
