Arsenal make approach for South American star midfielder

Arsenal make approach for South American star midfielder Arsenal have made contact with Sampdoria regarding the availability of midfielder Lucas Torreira, according to reports in Italy. The 22-year-old, who has also been linked with moves to Liverpool and Napoli, is being touted with a move this summer after a great season in Serie A. Torreira’s form for Sampdoria saw him earn a place in Uruguay’s World Cup squad and Arsenal were seemingly keeping a close eye on him. Unai Emery reportedly made a late attempt to try to hijack the move to take Fabinho from Monaco to Liverpool, but was ultimately unsuccessful and as such, it’s obvious that he’s looking to add another midfielder to his squad. Whilst Torreira obviously does not possess the same physique as Fabinho, he does play in defensive midfield role, like the Brazilian international and as such, it makes sense that the Gunners would be looking at him. With the World Cup only a few weeks away, Arsenal might have to act quickly if they want to sign the Uruguayan before he jets off to Russia.

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, according to Sport Mediaset.

The Gunners have reportedly agreed to pay €30m for the Uruguayan, which is €5m more than his release clause. However, the clause could only be triggered if a club agreed to pay the €25m in full, so it appears that Arsenal have paid an excess, which will allow them to pay the fee in instalments.

SM report that although a deal has been struck between the two sides, personal terms are yet to be agreed.

Uruguay’s first game of the World Cup is on Friday so if terms can’t be agreed by then, it’s likely that Arsenal might need to wait for the South American side to be eliminated before they can continue discussions.

Torreira has been linked with moves to Napoli and Liverpool, but it appears that Arsenal are closing on a deal to take him to the Emirates.

Chelsea closing in on Rugani deal .
Chelsea are thought to be close to confirming a deal to sign Juventus defender Daniele Rugani. According to reports in Italy by Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited on Team Talk, the defender will sign a four-year contract with the Blues. The deal is said to be worth a reported €35 million, with another €10 million also included in potential add-ons. Rugani was a key target for incoming Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, who worked with the defender at Empoli. Sarri is expected to be confirmed as Antonio Conte’s replacement imminently following talks between Chelsea and Napoli. The former Napoli boss even tried to lure him to Naples during his time there, but the youngster has now become frustrated by the lack of regular game time in Turin. Juventus are pushing to sign young Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer, which would push Rugani even further down the pecking order.
