Spain's 23-man World Cup squad confirmed

Spain's 23-man World Cup squad confirmed Spain, the 2010 World Cup winners, are coming into this tournament with very high hopes. Legends such as Carlos Puyol, Xavi and Iker Casillas have all came to the end of their international careers and a new crop of Spanish tiki taka footballers are on their way. After a disappointing Euro 2016, head coach Vincente Del Bosque resigned, leaving a vacancy for new manager Julen Lopetegui, who named his 23 man squad earlier this week. Most of the Spanish squad basically picks itself. The winners such as Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta are still very much the spine of the team. However, this Spanish squad has a lot of young quality. The likes of Marco Asensio, Saul Ninguez and Lucas Vazquez have all had positive seasons in Madrid. Furthermore, there are a few “not sure” players. Liverpool flop Iago Aspas was given the green light ahead of Alvaro Morata after a good campaign with Celta Vigo, as was Valencia forward Rodrigo. Another shock name to the list was Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal, who was picked ahead of Marcos Alonso, Real Sociedad right back Alvaro Odriozola, who has been named ahead of Alonso and Hector Bellerin, rounds off the 23-man selection for Spain. This squad wil suit playing the typical Spanish, keep ball way. There isn’t a lot of pace through out the side, but hopefully, Lopetegui can show why he was given the job and find a system that works with an incredibly talented 23 man squad.

Per Diario AS, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reached out to Iniesta to try and gauge the 33-year old’s interest in coming to England. It’s a surprising move , considering Iniesta has appeared to have lost a step, and while his skill on the ball is still world class

Andres Iniesta has rubbished suggestions he ever considered reuniting with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The 34-year-old signed for J.League outfit Vissel Kobe in May after calling time on a long and decorated career at Barcelona.

Reports in England claimed former manager Guardiola would attempt to hijack the deal by taking him to Etihad Stadium in a player-coach capacity.

But the Spain international asserted he would not join a potential opponent of Barca and has now confirmed no discussions were ever held.

"Zero. I have seen that in the press it emerged that there had been contact. I tell you that there were zero conversations in that sense," Iniesta told Spanish radio station Cadena COPE.

Jorginho on the brink of Manchester City move despite €50m rejection, says Napoli chief

Andres Iniesta could reunite with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City . And he reveals the certainty surrounding the club is making him consider his own future — something he admits has never happened before.

Raheem Sterling said on Monday he sees his long-term future at Premier League leaders Manchester City and has no interest in a move to Arsenal.

"I left no room for doubt. I was leaving Barca to leave Europe, so that information did not make any sense."

Iniesta's final assignment before he heads to Japan is a trip to a fourth World Cup, which he will be attempting to win for the second time after scoring the decisive goal in the 2010 final.

Spain's first match in Russia is against Portugal on June 15 and Iniesta is well aware of the need to keep a close watch on Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Cristiano is a fundamental player for any team he is in and for Portugal, they are the current European champions," he said.

"I am left with the feeling that Portugal is a team that [is difficult] to hurt, that it is very hard to beat them and we will have to perform at the highest level."

Roberts linked with another move back to Celtic .
Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts is being linked with another move back to Celtic this summer. According to the Derry Journal, Roberts could become available this summer following James Maddison’s move to Leicester City. The Foxes completed the signing of Maddison on Wednesday, which all but ends their interest in Roberts, who was on loan at Celtic last season. Reports had suggested that Roberts could end up at Leicester, with Riyad Mahrez heading to Manchester City. While City are still expected to pursue a deal for Mahrez, Leicester are unlikely to push for Roberts’ signature. The report claims that should a move happen this summer, it is likely to be a loan move, with Celtic facing the prospect of being priced out of a deal. Roberts has previously stated that he would not be returning to the Hoops this summer, but it is yet to be seen how Maddison’s move to the King Power will affect this.
