The Blues have paid the former Napoli boss' release clause, with the 59- year -old set to sign a lucrative two- year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Maurizio Sarri has reportedly agreed a three-year contract to take over at Chelsea this summer.

Reports from Sport Italia claim that a breakthrough in negotiations has happened, but Chelsea still have to agree a fee with Napoli.

The report claims that Sarri will pocket around £7 million a year during his time in London.

The former Napoli boss has been Chelsea’s number one target to replace Antonio Conte, but their pursuit has been complicated by the manner of his departure from Naples.

The Blues had the chance to pay his £7 million release clause but that has since expired, but the Premier League side still need to negotiate a fee with Napoli, despite the club already hiring Carlo Ancelotti as his replacement.

Chelsea refuse to pay Sarri's release clause

Chelsea refuse to pay Sarri's release clause Football Italia claim that Chelsea are still unwilling to pay Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli release clause, with said clause set to expire tonight. The Italian manager is still technically employed by Napoli, despite having been replaced as manager by Carlo Ancelotti earlier this month. Italian rules state that until the contract is terminated by mutual consent, it remains intact. Napoli have no intention to waive or reduce the €8million clause, and with it set to expire tonight (11pm GMT) and with Chelsea not willing to pay, the Blues will need Sarri to take the club to court. Sarri and his lawyers will need to aim for contructive dismissal in order to terminate his contract, as he was sacked after reaching a new record of 91 Serie A points, and that means going through FIFA. However, this matter could take a while to resolve, and Chelsea aren’t prepared to wait much longer. They still have to decide on what to do with Antonio Conte with the Italian still having a year on his deal, while the Blues have also been in contact with Laurent Blanc about his availability.

Sarri was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti as Napoli manager in the course of the week and flew into London on Friday to engage in negotiations with the London club over a two- year contract . Chelsea and changing of coaches are like ladies and changing of guys.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich had a seven-hour meeting with Sarri yesterday who left Napoli this week after three years at the Serie A side. Maurizio Sarri has agreed to become Chelsea boss. Abramovich is set offer the 59-year-old a two-year contract and meet the £7million release clause

The report claims that Chelsea remain keen for Sarri to bring defender Elseid Hysaj with him to Stamford Bridge.

David Luiz continues to be linked with a move in the opposite direction. The Brazilian could be used as a bargaining chip to help Chelsea conclude a deal.

According to reports, the Blues will not only need to pay off Conte, but also give Napoli €5m in compensation. Sarri was officially replaced as head coach by Carlo Ancelotti last month but was kept on by the club as they were not willing to let him leave without being adequately compensated, but it looks like an agreement has now been reached for him to secure a move to Chelsea. Conte, despite winning the Premier League in his first season at Chelsea and the FA Cup in his second, looks to be on the way out after seemingly falling out with the board over transfer policy.
