Leighton Baines has been a long-term Everton stalwart, signing for the Toffees in 2007 from Wigan. However, Baines has had problems with injuries and is not getting any younger, meaning Everton are now looking for fresh blood at left back. Tierney would fit this bill, although Everton could face some competition for the defender, with Manchester United and Spurs also interested in bringing Tierney to the Premier League. Everton views Tierney as a long-term successor to Baines, who is now 33 years old.

Kristoffer Ajer has revealed that the Celtic players desperately want Kieran Tierney to stay at the club after interest in him from Premier League side Everton, according to a report on the Daily Record.

The Norwegian has developed a close friendship with Tierney during their time at Celtic together and he believes that the young left-back can continue to develop with the Scottish champions.

Celtic are expected to fight back against all offers for Tierney but £25m could be an offer that is too good to refuse for the Hoops, with Tottenham and Manchester United also thought to be keen.

The 21-year-old has been a supporter of the club for his whole life and joined Celtic at the age of just seven. According to earlier reports, it had seemed a £25 million switch down south was becoming more and more likely but whilst no move was fully agreed, it all now seems dead in the water. Tierney featured yesterday for Celtic in the 7-0 hammering of Shamrock Rovers and will be a crucial player when the Champions League Qualifiers kick off next week.
