Liverpool resume talks with Lyon over deal for Nabil Fekir

Liverpool resume talks with Lyon over deal for Nabil Fekir Liverpool have resumed talks with Lyon over a possible deal for Nabil Fekir, according to John Richardson of The Mirror. A reported £53million move for the French international fell through prior to the World Cup after Liverpool apparently identified some possible issues during his medical. Liverpool’s medical team, who flew out to France to help complete a deal, were reportedly unhappy about the condition of Fekir’s knee, which he had injured a few years earlier. It looked like any possible deal was dead, even though the player had already conducted his welcome interview with LFCTV. However, according to Richardson, in the last few days, talks between Liverpool and Lyon have resumed with all parties involved hoping to get a deal done. Fekir apparently has his heart set on a move to Liverpool, where he would be an ideal replacement for Philippe Coutinho who left in January. Lyon are willing to sell their captain at the right price, but it remains to be seen if they can do a deal with the Reds.

Klopp’s plans for midfield improvement are in place with Naby Keïta secured for £52.75m from Red Bull Leipzig and Lyon captain Nabil Fekir targeted for a transfer costing a minimum of £60m. He will come back strong. You cannot find the words.

As part of his exclusive interview with Get French Football News, RMC journalist Loic Tanzi revealed that whilst stories on exactly why Liverpool didn’t complete the transfer of Nabil Fekir differ depending on who he talks to, he still expects the Reds to go back in for the French international after the World Cup.

Firstly, Tanzi explained exactly what happened to prevent the deal from going through in the first place.

“According to what I’ve been told, Fékir had had an agreement with Liverpool for a long time now, and it’s the club where he wanted to be playing next year. Everything had been sorted but the minor details – in transfers, the fee is often very quickly sorted out, but the small clauses take up a lot of time to negotiate, the ones that involve an amount being paid based on appearances for the national team, for example. All of that was sorted towards the end, right before he left for Russia.”

Liverpool yet to stage further talks with Lyon over Fekir deal

Liverpool yet to stage further talks with Lyon over Fekir deal It was recently reported by the Mirror that Liverpool had reopened talks with Lyon as they plan to reassess terms over their deal to sign Nabil Fekir. However, these claims have since been refuted by Paul Joyce in a report for the Times, as it’s now stated that the Reds have not, in fact, resumed negotiations with Lyon. Fekir was in line to join Liverpool for a deal worth an initial fee of £48.4 million in June, but this transfer collapsed as concerns were raised regarding the condition of the Frenchman’s knees. Manchester United have since been linked with a move for the playmaker, but claims of Liverpool’s fresh talks with Lyon are understood by Joyce to be wide of the mark. Fekir was believed to have had his heart set on a move to Liverpool after a lengthy period of speculation surrounding a move. However, it seems that the Reds still have reservations over signing a player who has a track record of injury problems, with Jurgen Klopp set to look elsewhere for added attacking inspiration.

Nabil Fekir ’s proposed £53m move to Liverpool has been put on hold due to concerns over the France international’s fitness. The delay threatens Liverpool ’s plans to secure their second major signing of the summer – and the second most expensive transfer in their history – before the World Cup .

Lyon have called off negotiations for the sale of Nabil Fekir to Liverpool , the French club announced on Saturday. The France forward was expected to join Jürgen Klopp’s side before Les Bleus left for the World Cup but Lyon have ended talks and called off the deal.

However, from that point onwards, Tanzi admits that the story changes depending on who he speaks to.

“Then, the Liverpool medical team came to Clairefontaine to conduct the medical, and it’s at that point that the sources diverge. We know that Liverpool at that point stopped discussing the transfer, even though up until that point they had been quite open about it. Some sources say that the medical had not gone well because of his knee issues, although that would surprise me; I don’t see why he can go play a World Cup with a bad knee but not for Liverpool next season. Others say that it’s because either his agent or Jean-Michel Aulas asked for more money towards the end. It’s hard to know who’s telling the truth.”

The journalist went on to say that he still expects Liverpool to come in for Fekir as if the issue was an injury, all talks would have been halted and he says that is not the case.

Fekir pleads with Lyon to let him join Liverpool

Fekir pleads with Lyon to let him join Liverpool Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir has pleaded with his club’s president to let him join Liverpool this summer. According to Mirror journalist David Maddock, Fekir met with Aulas during the World Cup to discuss the potential deal. Aulas agreed to revive talks. @LFC no… https://t.co/KR3dlLCJIF (@MaddockMirror) Maddock claims that Aulas has now agreed to revive talks with Liverpool after Fekir’s insistence on the deal going through. However, Liverpool will not do business for the, previously agreed, fee of £53m after the move broke down last month. Fekir was all set to join the club before Liverpool opted out upon the results of his medical. A move for the French international could now be back on, if Lyon drop their asking price. Liverpool will have to wait until after the World Cup final on Sunday, with Fekir set to face Croatia for his country.

“What I’m sure of, is that that the saga isn’t over. Liverpool will come back for Fékir at the end of the World Cup because he’s a player that Klopp’s been interested in for a while. I don’t what the sticking point was, whether it was a financial or medical problem, but if it had been medical, Liverpool would have stopped the transfer right there and then, but at the moment negotiations seem to be going on. There’s a possibility that they’re using his knee as a means of paying less, but in the end, they have the money and they know he wants to come.”

This story is set to run all summer in what will likely become the latest in a long line of Liverpool-related transfer sagas.
