Stoke eye Ojo loan move as part of Shaqiri deal

Stoke eye Ojo loan move as part of Shaqiri deal Stoke City are hoping to land Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo on loan as part of the deal to take Xherdan Shaqiri to Anfield. Goal reports that the Potters have enquired about taking the player temporarily, with Gary Rowett preparing for life after Shaqiri. Previous reports have suggested that the recently-relegated side would look to get a Reds player on loan in return, that player now appears to be Ojo. The youngster spent last season on loan at Fulham and has previously had spells at Wolves and Wigan. Ojo was unable to hold down a regular spot in the Fulham side last season, but he did feature 22 times during their promotion campaign. Jurgen Klopp has a wealth of youngsters available to him this summer but Ojo does not appear to be part of his plans for the first-team squad going forward. He would provide some Championship experience to the Stoke squad who are hoping to secure promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

Tranmere Rovers 2 - 3 Liverpool . The Reds’ third came following a scramble in the penalty area, with the impressive Andy Robertson eventually backheeling towards Lallana who put his foot through it and into the back of the net.

In what has become an annual match with Tranmere, Liverpool visited Rovers for a pre-season friendly. This tune-up revealed more of a mixed bag from the last game, with Liverpool winning 3-2.

It was a quick turnaround with the adjusted scheduling but good preparation for the coming season with multiple spells where the matches will come thick and fast. Plus, Jurgen Klopp’s preference for swapping sides at half-time provided a chance to see more players perform.

In very much a game of two halves, Liverpool are clearly still working on fitness and individual’s are still finding their feet. The first half showed all the best bits in this one, while the second half revealed the weaknesses that need addressing.

Tranmere 3-2 Liverpool: Quick Hit Notes

Tranmere 3-2 Liverpool: Quick Hit Notes Throughout the entire 2018/19 campaign, I’ll be re-watching the entire 90 minutes of every single Liverpool game, which is something I’ve been doing for games over the past few seasons anyway. As I re-watch, I take down some quick notes and, this year, I’ll be sharing some of those in article form here at Read Liverpool. The Reds continued their preparations for the 2018/19 season underway with a 3-2 victory over Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park. First-half goals from Rafa Camacho, Sheyi Ojo and Adam Lallana gave Liverpool a well-deserved lead at the break. However, the second-half team struggled and two errors, one by Loris Karius, the other by the combination of James Milner and Pedro Chirivella, gifted the home side two goals. Obviously, it’s tough to learn too much from a friendly game in which two separate XI’s are used, but there were a few things I did take from the match: Adam Lallana looked really fit and really sharp. He pressed as well as ever and he linked up well on the left with Andy Robertson and Ryan Kent. Injuries ruined Lallana’s 2017/18 campaign but it wasn’t too long ago that he was a vital cog in Jurgen Klopp’s side. His performance bodes well. Fabinho looks like the type of player who loves to keep the tempo of the game high. Almost every pass he made was hit the first-time ad he looked to keep the ball moving. Defensively, his positioning was very good and he made interceptions and defensive headers look very straightforward.

Tranmere 2 - 3 Liverpool . Prenton Park Pre-Season Friendly (2). Goals: Camacho 8′, Ojo 27′, Lallana 33′; Smith 71′, Soukouna 80′. He was crowded out by opposition midfielders, but always kept possession either by beating a man or finding a man.

Report: Tranmere 2 Liverpool 3 . Published by Tranmere Rovers at 10th July 2018. Soon after Liverpool had a good chance to make it four , but thanks to bravery and a fine save from Pilling to deny Liverpool on not one but two occasions in a short space of time.

The first 45 saw the provocative pairing of newcomers Fabinho and Naby Keita, which previewed possibilities. The midfield dominated while the wing play on both sides created and capitalized on chances.

The second 45 proved a jumble with mistakes making more of an impact. The second side looked less in sync and lacked the finishing flair despite delivering chances.

Still, it is preseason with a far broader range of reasons for team selection and individual targets to be considered.

Here are four findings from the match:

Newcastle linked with move for Liverpool forward .
Newcastle have been tipped to make a move for Liverpool forward Divock Origi, according to the Chronicle. The Belgian fell out of favour at Anfield in the 2016-17 season, and was sent on loan by manager Jürgen Klopp to Wolfsburg for the entire 2017-18 campaign. Making 34 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, Origi returned a slightly disappointing six goals for his efforts. Aged just 23 however, the striker has time yet to craft his game into something that belongs at the highest levels of European football. With Liverpool unlikely to grant the Ostend-native much game time in the upcoming season, Newcastle are reportedly seeking to swoop for the fringe player. Be that swoop a permanent move or a loan move, the addition of Origi would represent a diversifying of the Magpies’ attacking options. The former Lille product stands to be a more physical presence in the Newcastle lineup than Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez, with Aleksandar Mitrovic expected to make his move to Fulham permanent in the coming weeks.
