Chelsea could swoop for Jorginho to help lure Sarri from Napoli

Chelsea could swoop for Jorginho to help lure Sarri from Napoli Chelsea could make a big-money move to pip Manchester City to the signing of Napoli star Jorginho, according to reports from Italy. The Blues are in the process of pushing to appoint Maurizio Sarri as the club’s new manager but are still locked in talks with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, despite the Italian having been sacked last month. Although Sarri’s €8m release clause at the Stadio San Paolo has reached its expiration, he is still technically under contract at Napoli, thereby leading Chelsea to continue talks with the Serie A club over releasing him from his deal. This is where a potential deal for Jorginho comes in, with Sport Italia (h/t Football Italia) indicating that a €60m deal for the midfielder would act as a sweetener in Chelsea’s pursuit to convince Napoli to release Sarri. City have been desperate to close a deal for Jorginho but at the eleventh hour, it seems Chelsea could swoop, with Sport Italia believing that this would enable smoother negotiations with Napoli regarding the deal for Sarri.

Chelsea are set to finally put an end to their managerial stalemate after Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed a double deal for Maurizio Sarri and midfielder Jorginho to move to Stamford Bridge is close.

In a deal totalling £57.5m, both Sarri and Jorginho will join Chelsea in a double deal - with the go-ahead being made tomorow. Manchester City had made the Italian midfielder a priority but it now looks likely Pep Guardiola will miss out.

Chelsea are set to complete the double swoop of Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri and the Italian side’s star player Jorginho, the telegraph reports.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has claimed that the £50million double swoop is close to completion.

Talks have been ongoing between Chelsea and Napoli for the Blues to appoint Sarri as current manager Antonio Conte’s successor since the end of last season.

It now seems that the two sides are set to agree a £50m fee, plus £7m in bonuses, to take both Sarri and midfielder Jorginho to Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City had been widely expected all summer to sign Jorginho, and they are yet to give up on trying to gain his signature with personal terms between the player and City having already been agreed.

Jorginho 'promises' to make Chelsea move

Jorginho 'promises' to make Chelsea move Napoli midfielder Jorginho has reportedly promised to join Chelsea this summer, with the Blues set to beat Manchester City to his signature. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Napoli player will be included as part of the deal to take Maurizio Sarri to Stamford Bridge this summer. Chelsea are reportedly ready to pay a combined €65 million, with €8 million of that being made up through bonuses to land Jorginho and Sarri. Both Chelsea and Manchester City have been linked with a move for Jorginho this summer, but Pep Guardiola’s men were looking set to sign the player. The Italian international played a key role in Sarri’s Napoli side and Guardiola was said to be a fan. An announcement is believed to be close, with reports suggesting Wednesday could be the decisive day. The deal to bring Sarri to Stamford Bridge has been delayed since the end of the season with Chelsea locked in negotiations with Napoli.

The Jorginho deal is not dependent upon Sarri [moving to Chelsea ].” There have been reports in Italy that Cesc Fàbregas, who has entered the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, could join Napoli.

De Laurentiis spoke of the negotiations between Chelsea and Napoli nearing a solution.

“The Sarri deal is in the homestretch, it depends on him.”

“I’ve laid down my conditions. It’s all in the hands of lawyers. Jorginho? We said to ourselves, ‘if Jorginho has any requests, we’ll take them into account.’”

“For that, I’ll have to apologise to Manchester City. However, if the player would rather live in London than Manchester, I can understand that.”

“If Chelsea are paying him even more, I can understand that too. Jorginho and Sarri together again? Jorginho would go to Chelsea regardless of Sarri.”

Chelsea are still yet to terminate the final year of Conte’s managerial contract, which is worth £9m, but it is looking increasingly likely that the Italian will not be in the Chelsea dug out come the start of the new season.

Jorginho helping Chelsea squad to adapt to Sarri's playing style .
Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso says that new Blues signing Jorginho is helping the squad to adapt to new boss Maurizio Sarri’s playing style, the Evening Standard reports. Having played under Sarri for three years at Napoli, Jorginho is using his experience and knowledge of Sarri’s team set up to help and advise the rest of the Chelsea squad. Blues defender Alonso spoke of Jorginho’s help to the club’s website. “He is used to playing this way, and he is going to be a great help for everybody. He is giving us tips to get used to this way of playing.” “We are working on a new formation, a new style that he is asking of us. He wants us to press high, he wants the team to be together, to have possession of the ball.” Jorginho signed for Chelsea shortly after Sarri’s confirmed arrival as the new Blues boss, making his first outing in a Chelsea shirt in Monday’s 1-0 pre-season win over Perth Glory. Jorginho impressed during his 45 minutes on the field alongside fellow midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Ross Barkley. Sarri’s Chelsea begin their Premier League campaign away at Huddersfield Town.
