Lille ready to make £5m bid for Jozo Simunovic

Lille ready to make £5m bid for Jozo Simunovic French side Lille are ready to make a £5m bid for Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic, according to a report in the Daily Mail. Lille had a disappointing 2017/18 campaign as they finished in 17 place in Ligue1 when they were widely expected to be competing for a Champions League place. Simunovic has had an up and down career at Celtic Park since arriving from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 and he could be on his way to France if Brendan Rodgers decides to let him go. The 23-year-old played just 14 league games for Celtic last season and after getting sent off against Rangers in March, he did not start another game, although he did come off the bench for the last 15 minutes of the Scottish FA Cup final win over Motherwell. Celtic do have a lot of centre back options, although Lazio’s interest in Dedryck Boyata could be a factor in whether Simunovic is allowed to leave.

Brendan Rodgers claimed there was “no embarrassment” in losing his first game as Celtic boss 1-0 against part-time Lincoln Red Imps in the first leg of Shock of Gibraltar: is Celtic ’ s defeat by Lincoln Red Imps their worst ever? He said: “ Celtic fans expect us to get through into the group stages.

Celtic Football Club is a Scottish football club based in Glasgow, which has regularly taken part in European competitions since its first appearance in the 1962–63 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

After Celtic despatched Alashkert 3-0 in their Champions League qualifier, it looks like a formality that the team will now progress to the second round.

In that round, the Scottish Champions will play either Valur or Rosenborg BK. Many Hoops fans will recognise the Norwegians from last season’s qualifying campaign, where Celtic edged through 1-0 over a tough tie.

It looked certain that Celtic would be playing Rosenborg but that may not be the case as in Reykjavik last night, hosts Valur defeated the Norwegians 1-0 thanks to a late goal.

Without getting too carried away, Brendan Rodgers would be delighted at the prospect of avoiding a tricky trip back to Trondheim.

Celtic miss out on Spurs youngster Noni Madueke

Celtic miss out on Spurs youngster Noni Madueke Celtic were one of the many clubs to miss out on the signature of Tottenham youngster Noni Madueke, who has agreed to join PSV. The Scotsman reports that Celtic, along with Chelsea, Manchester United, Juventus and RB Leipzig were all interested in the promising young player. Madueke has left Spurs to sign a professional deal in the Eredivisie, which is proving to be a popular breeding ground for young players. The 16-year-old becomes the latest young English player to make the move abroad in search of regular first-team football. The attacking midfielder had been offered a new deal by Spurs, but he turned it down in order to take the big step that is moving abroad. Brendan Rodgers has been known to keep an eye out for a potential bargain during his time at Celtic. Moses Odubajo is currently training with the club after rejecting a new contract at Hull and could join the club on a free transfer.

Any chance to simply such a difficult qualification process will be a real bonus, but Celtic who looked impressive in their first game in Armenia, will remain focused on their home leg as they aim to eventually return to the Champions League group stages for a third consecutive year.

Celtic to complete loan signing of Arzani .
Manchester City are close to completing a deal for Melbourne City’s Daniel Arzani with the Australian prospect expected to be immediately sent out on loan to Celtic, the Daily Mail reports. The 19-year-old is expected to join City for a fee in the region of £280,000 before spending the 2018/19 season on loan at the Scottish champions. Celtic are thought to have beaten off competition from PSV Eindhoven in securing the attacking midfielder on loan. Arzani made three appearances for Australia at the World Cup and also attracted interest from the likes of Roma. However City appear to have won the race for his signature and in joining Celtic on loan, Arzani will link up with fellow Australian Tom Rogic. City’s deal for Arzani will be similar to the one they completed for midfielder Aaron Mooy back in 2016 before he joined Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan, then later completing a permanent move to the Terriers.
