Benitez remains keen on permanent Kenedy deal

Benitez remains keen on permanent Kenedy deal Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is still holding out hope he can secure a permanent deal to sign Kenedy from Chelsea. The Telegraph reports that the Brazilian winger remains firmly in Benitez’s sights after he enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at the club last season. Chelsea are open to selling Kenedy this summer, but interest is likely to mount as other clubs become aware of his availability, something that may price Newcastle out of a deal. Benitez is in the market for a new winger, with Kenedy and Andros Townsend both transfer targets. Scottish international Matt Ritchie is attracting interest from Stoke and Middlesbrough, which could raise enough funds to secure a deal for either of the aforementioned targets. During his time at the club, Kenedy became a hit with the fans at St James’ Park for his pace and trickery on the ball. He went on to play a key role in helping the Magpies avoid relegation back to the Championship.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Kenedy has agreed to return to Newcastle on a season-long loan with the deal set to go through before Maurizio Sarri's appointment is confirmed at Chelsea. Ever since Kenedy's loan spell came to an end last season

Chelsea have confirmed that Kenedy has today re-joined Newcastle United on a season-long loan deal.

As per the club’s official website, Kenedy joins Rafa Benitez’s men after spending the second half of the season on loan there.

The club’s report does not clarify whether or not the Magpies maintain the option to buy the player at the end of the loan deal.

Previous reports have suggested that Benitez’s men will be given first refusal on the option to sign him permanently next summer.

Rafa Benitez’s men have been keen to bring in the winger on a permanent basis after he enjoyed a successful stint on loan at St James’ Park. Kenedy, who joined Chelsea with much promise, had fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge last season. After being sent home from the club’s pre-season tour, he found game time hard to come by under head coach Antonio Conte. Kenedy joined Newcastle on loan during the January window and added some much-needed pace and trickery to their attack, playing a key role in their survival push. Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend, but Kenedy has been a key target for Benitez since the end of the season.
