U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh “incurred tens of thousands of dollars of credit card debt buying baseball tickets over the past decade," The Washington Post reported Wednesday, citing the federal judge's financial filings and information from the White House.

Kavanaugh incurred the debt by buying Nationals season tickets and postseason tickets for himself and his friends, White House spokesman Raj Shah told The Post.

Is this a scandal? No. But six figures on baseball tickets is … a lot of dead presidents.

And fodder for media commentary:

— "He he racked up debts that went way beyond buying some peanuts and Cracker Jack," USA Today noted.

— "Purchasing season tickets to watch the chronically disappointing Washington Nationals play baseball in their charmless stadium year after year," Deadspin deadpanned "is a troubling sign of poor judgment."

— "Imagine how much debt he could have racked up if the Nationals made it out of the first round of the playoffs," NESN mused.

Kavanaugh, 53, reported debt between $60,000 and $200,000 on three credit cards and a personal loan in 2016, but the debt either was paid off or fell below the required amount to be reported, according to The Post.

Shah told The Post that Kavanaugh’s friends paid back what they owed him (the massive debt load was gone by 2017) and he no longer buys season tickets.

Kavanaugh faces a tough confirmation hearing, but it won’t be because of his apparent love of Nationals baseball.
